Narada Asks Narayana Whom He Worships

Yudhishthira asks Bhishma which deity a seeker of perfection should worship, what liberation is, and who is the god of the gods and the father of the fathers. Bhishma answers with an old conversation between Narada and Narayana at Badari, where Narada, astonished to see Nara and Narayana performing rites for gods and ancestors, asks whom they worship. The Blessed Lord replies that they worship the Self, the unmanifest Knower of the Field, from whom Prakriti and they themselves arise, and who ordained the rites for gods and ancestors, which the twenty-one Prajapatis honour. He adds that the liberated reach him, and that those devoted to him alone enter into him.
