Shandili and the Wingless Garuda
Garuda and Galava alight on Mount Rishabha, where the ascetic brahmin woman Shandili feeds them. On waking, Garuda thinks of carrying her off to live where Brahma, Shiva and Vishnu dwell, and at once loses his feathers and becomes a lump of flesh. He begs her pardon; she forgives him, teaches that good conduct brings dharma and fortune and that women are never to be reproached, and restores his wings. On the road Vishvamitra meets Galava and presses for his fee, and Garuda leads the despairing Galava away to take counsel.
