Yayati Raised to Heaven by His Grandsons
Once the good kings have recognised him, Yayati rises from the earth in divine form, freed of his distress. One by one his daughter's sons give him their merit: Vasumanas the fruit of his generosity, forbearance and sacred fires; Pratardana the fame and heroism of his kshatriya life; Shibi Aushinara the power of his unbroken truthfulness; and Ashtaka the fruit of his hundreds of sacrifices. As each one speaks, Yayati rises further from the earth, until the four grandsons have lifted their grandfather back to heaven.
