Verse 1 (skanda.8.59.1)

सनत्कुमार उवाच। । ततस्तां कौशिकीं तत्र प्रस्थाप्य हिमवत्सुता । विरेमे तपसस्तीव्रात् सस्नौ च विधिवत्तदा

sanatkumāra uvāca| | tatastāṁ kauśikīṁ tatra prasthāpya himavatsutā | vireme tapasastīvrāt sasnau ca vidhivattadā

Sanatkumara said: Then, having sent Kaushiki off there, the daughter of Himavat ceased from her intense austerity, and bathed then in accordance with proper rite.

Verse 2 (skanda.8.59.2)

वसाना वाससी शुक्ले दिव्य स्रगनुलेपना । पार्श्वस्थं पर्वतं वीक्ष्य प्रोवाच वरदास्मि ते

vasānā vāsasī śukle divya sraganulepanā | pārśvasthaṁ parvataṁ vīkṣya provāca varadāsmi te

Clad in two white garments, adorned with divine garlands and unguents, seeing the mountain standing beside her, she said: I am the giver of a boon to you.

Verse 3 (skanda.8.59.3)

एवमुक्तवतीं देवीं शिखरी मूर्त्तिमान् तदा । प्रणिपत्य वरं वव्रे मयि सान्निध्यमस्तु ते

evamuktavatīṁ devīṁ śikharī mūrttimān tadā | praṇipatya varaṁ vavre mayi sānnidhyamastu te

To the Goddess who had spoken thus, the mountain, then taking bodily form, bowed low and asked for a boon: May your presence remain near me.

Verse 4 (skanda.8.59.4)

नाम चैव मम ख्यातिं तव नामा भिलक्षितम् । यातु लोकेषु सर्वेषु त्वत्प्रसादान्महेश्वरि

nāma caiva mama khyātiṁ tava nāmā bhilakṣitam | yātu lokeṣu sarveṣu tvatprasādānmaheśvari

And, O great goddess, by your grace, may my own name become renowned throughout all the worlds, marked by your own name.

Verse 5 (skanda.8.59.5)

अग्निश्च वरदां वव्रे मागाः कोपं मयीश्वरि । सदा पुष्पफलत्वं च वृक्षास्तां तत्र वव्रिरे

agniśca varadāṁ vavre māgāḥ kopaṁ mayīśvari | sadā puṣpaphalatvaṁ ca vṛkṣāstāṁ tatra vavrire

And Agni asked that boon-giving goddess: Do not be angry with me, O queen. And the trees there asked of her that they might always bear flower and fruit.

Verse 6 (skanda.8.59.6)

सुप्रसन्ना भवास्माकं त्वयि भक्तिश्च नोस्त्विति । ततस्तां वव्रिरे देवीं सर्वाश्च परिचारिकाः

suprasannā bhavāsmākaṁ tvayi bhaktiśca nostviti | tatastāṁ vavrire devīṁ sarvāśca paricārikāḥ

Be well pleased with us, and let devotion to you remain in us — thus all the attendants too asked of that Goddess.

Verse 7 (skanda.8.59.7)

उपास्यमाना बह्वीभिर्देवताभिर्गिरीन्द्रजा । अभिभूयान्यतेजांसि भानवीव बभौ प्रभा

upāsyamānā bahvībhirdevatābhirgirīndrajā | abhibhūyānyatejāṁsi bhānavīva babhau prabhā

Worshipped by many divinities, the daughter of the lord of mountains, outshining every other splendor, gleamed like the light of the sun.

Verse 8 (skanda.8.59.8)

हृदयेपि स्थिता पत्युः पत्यौ हृदयसंस्थिते । सा वै गिरीन्द्रतनया वियुक्ता स्मीत्यमन्यत

hṛdayepi sthitā patyuḥ patyau hṛdayasaṁsthite | sā vai girīndratanayā viyuktā smītyamanyata

Though she dwelt within her husband's heart, and he dwelt within hers, that daughter of the mountain lord still felt herself parted from him.

Verse 9 (skanda.8.59.9)

अथ सा तेजसां धाम पतिं सर्वजगत्पतिम् । वरदा वरदं द्रष्टुं गमनायोपचक्रमे

atha sā tejasāṁ dhāma patiṁ sarvajagatpatim | varadā varadaṁ draṣṭuṁ gamanāyopacakrame

Then she, the boon-giver, set out to go and see her husband, the very seat of all splendor, lord of the whole universe, himself a bestower of boons.

Verse 10 (skanda.8.59.10)

नमस्कृता तद्वनदेवताभिः प्रदक्षिणीकृत्य समिद्धमग्निम् । ऋषीँस्ततो वन्द्यतमाभिवन्द्य जनञ्च तेषां प्रतिपूज्य पूज्यम्

namaskṛtā tadvanadevatābhiḥ pradakṣiṇīkṛtya samiddhamagnim | ṛṣī~stato vandyatamābhivandya janañca teṣāṁ pratipūjya pūjyam

Saluted by the deities of that forest, and having circumambulated the kindled fire, then, though herself most worthy of reverence, having bowed to the sages, and duly honored their venerable attendants as well...

Verse 11 (skanda.8.59.11)

उत्पपात ततो व्योम सा सार्द्धं सोमनन्दिना । सिंहेन च जगद्धात्री गणैः परिजनेन च

utpapāta tato vyoma sā sārddhaṁ somanandinā | siṁhena ca jagaddhātrī gaṇaiḥ parijanena ca

—she, the sustainer of the world, then rose up into the sky, together with Somanandi, her lion, her ganas, and her attendants.

Verse 12 (skanda.8.59.12)

वियति जलदवृन्दान् विक्षिपन्ती स्वधाम्ना हिमजलकणशीतैर्वीज्यमाना मरुद्भिः । गिरिवरतनया सा पत्युरेव स्मरन्ती मदनदहनमूर्तेराशु पार्श्वं जगाम

viyati jaladavṛndān vikṣipantī svadhāmnā himajalakaṇaśītairvījyamānā marudbhiḥ | girivaratanayā sā patyureva smarantī madanadahanamūrterāśu pārśvaṁ jagāma

Scattering the masses of clouds in the sky with her own radiance, fanned by winds cool with particles of snow-water, that daughter of the excellent mountain, her thoughts fixed only upon her husband, swiftly went to the side of him whose very form had burned Desire itself.
