Verse 1 (skanda.8.80.1)

सनत्कुमार उवाच । तस्मिन् महति युद्धे तु वर्तमाने महाभये । दानवान् वै तदा देवा समन्तात् पर्यवारयन् ।

sanatkumāra uvāca | tasmin mahati yuddhe tu vartamāne mahābhaye | dānavān vai tadā devā samantāt paryavārayan |

Sanatkumara said: While that great and terrifying battle was underway, the gods then surrounded the Danavas on every side.

Verse 2 (skanda.8.80.2)

मृत्युः कालो यमश्चैव कृतान्तः कलहस्तथा । निकृतिर्व्याधयश्चैव वैरं क्रोधश्च वीर्यवान् ।

mṛtyuḥ kālo yamaścaiva kṛtāntaḥ kalahastathā | nikṛtirvyādhayaścaiva vairaṁ krodhaśca vīryavān |

Death, Time, Yama, Kritanta (the Ender), Strife, Deceit, Diseases, Enmity, and mighty Wrath,

Verse 3 (skanda.8.80.3)

नरकाश्चैव ते सर्वे यमदूताश्च सर्वशः । प्रेताश्च पितरश्चैव चत्वारो ये गणास्त्विति ।

narakāścaiva te sarve yamadūtāśca sarvaśaḥ | pretāśca pitaraścaiva catvāro ye gaṇāstviti |

and all the hells, and every one of Yama's messengers, and the Pretas and the Pitris - these four hosts as well,

Verse 4 (skanda.8.80.4)

वामनश्चैव यो देवाः किंकराश्च महाबलाः । एते सर्वे तदाविश्य संजघ्नुर्दानवं बलम् ।

vāmanaścaiva yo devāḥ kiṁkarāśca mahābalāḥ | ete sarve tadāviśya saṁjaghnurdānavaṁ balam |

and Vamana, and the mighty Kinkara attendant-gods - all these then entered the fray and struck at the army of the Danavas.

Verse 5 (skanda.8.80.5)

यमदूतैर्विभिन्नांगा भग्नवक्षत्रिकोरसः । निष्टनन्ति क्षितौ दैत्या निरयेष्विव पापिनः ।

yamadūtairvibhinnāṁgā bhagnavakṣatrikorasaḥ | niṣṭananti kṣitau daityā nirayeṣviva pāpinaḥ |

Their limbs torn apart by Yama's messengers, their chests and ribs shattered, the Daityas howled upon the ground like sinners in hell.

Verse 6 (skanda.8.80.6)

असिचर्मविनिष्पिष्टा मृत्युपाशोवपाशिताः । कृतान्तवशगास्सर्वे संभज्यन्ति दितेः सुताः ।

asicarmaviniṣpiṣṭā mṛtyupāśovapāśitāḥ | kṛtāntavaśagāssarve saṁbhajyanti diteḥ sutāḥ |

Crushed by swords and shields, bound fast by the noose of Death, all the sons of Diti, fallen under the sway of Kritanta, were being torn to pieces.

Verse 7 (skanda.8.80.7)

ते हन्यमाना दैत्येन्द्रा मृत्युना च यमेन च । त्रातारमलभन्तो वै तत्र तत्रैव बभ्रमुः ।

te hanyamānā daityendrā mṛtyunā ca yamena ca | trātāramalabhanto vai tatra tatraiva babhramuḥ |

Those lords of the Daityas, being slain by Death and by Yama, finding no protector, wandered helplessly here and there.

Verse 8 (skanda.8.80.8)

तथा तांस्तत्र तत्रैव भ्रमन्तो जघ्नुरार्दिताः । ततो हाहाकृतः शब्दो दानवानां बलेभवत् ।

tathā tāṁstatra tatraiva bhramanto jaghnurārditāḥ | tato hāhākṛtaḥ śabdo dānavānāṁ balebhavat |

Thus, as they wandered here and there, tormented, they were struck down again and again; then a cry of woe arose from the army of the Danavas.

Verse 9 (skanda.8.80.9)

साधुसाध्विति देवानां यशं पूजयतामभूत् । अथ प्रह्रादतनयो विरोचन इति श्रुतः ।

sādhusādhviti devānāṁ yaśaṁ pūjayatāmabhūt | atha prahrādatanayo virocana iti śrutaḥ |

A cry of "Well done, well done!" arose among those honoring the glory of the gods. Then Prahrada's son, known by the name Virochana,

Verse 10 (skanda.8.80.10)

स गजेन ततोभ्येत्य देवानां बलमार्दयत् । सह तेन महामायो गजेन समधावत ।

sa gajena tatobhyetya devānāṁ balamārdayat | saha tena mahāmāyo gajena samadhāvata |

came there mounted on an elephant and began to crush the army of the gods; that great sorcerer charged forward together with that elephant.

Verse 11 (skanda.8.80.11)

यमं प्रदक्षिणं कृत्वा द्रोणमेघ इवापरः । स शरैर्बहुभिस्तीक्ष्णैरकुण्ठाग्रैरयोमयैः ।

yamaṁ pradakṣiṇaṁ kṛtvā droṇamegha ivāparaḥ | sa śarairbahubhistīkṣṇairakuṇṭhāgrairayomayaiḥ |

Having circled Yama, like another rain-laden cloud, he, with many sharp, unblunted, iron-tipped arrows,

Verse 12 (skanda.8.80.12)

वरुणञ्च धनेशञ्च वायुञ्चैवाभ्यवर्षत । स संछाद्य तदा भासं भास्करस्य शितैः शरैः । अवाकिरत्तदा देवान् संवर्त्तक इवाम्बुदः ।

varuṇañca dhaneśañca vāyuñcaivābhyavarṣata | sa saṁchādya tadā bhāsaṁ bhāskarasya śitaiḥ śaraiḥ | avākirattadā devān saṁvarttaka ivāmbudaḥ |

he showered arrows upon Varuna, Kubera, and Vayu; and, having veiled the brightness of the sun with his keen shafts, he then overwhelmed the gods with a rain of arrows, like a cloud of universal dissolution.

Verse 13 (skanda.8.80.13)

ते शरार्चितसर्वाङ्गा वध्यमानाः पुनः पुनः । क्षणेन समपद्यन्त देवाः सर्वे विचेतसः ।

te śarārcitasarvāṅgā vadhyamānāḥ punaḥ punaḥ | kṣaṇena samapadyanta devāḥ sarve vicetasaḥ |

Their whole bodies studded with arrows, struck down again and again, all the gods in an instant became bewildered and faint.

Verse 14 (skanda.8.80.14)

यान्तमायान्तमप्राप्तं प्राप्तं दूरस्थमेव च । यं यतो वीक्षते दैत्यस्तं ततोभिजघान सः ।

yāntamāyāntamaprāptaṁ prāptaṁ dūrasthameva ca | yaṁ yato vīkṣate daityastaṁ tatobhijaghāna saḥ |

Whether going or coming, whether unreached or already reached, or standing far off - wherever that Daitya spied any one of them, from that very spot he struck him down.

Verse 15 (skanda.8.80.15)

नित्यायतधनुर्देत्यः परिवेषीव भास्करः । दुर्निरीक्ष्यः समभवद् युगान्ताग्निरिवोत्थितः ।

nityāyatadhanurdetyaḥ pariveṣīva bhāskaraḥ | durnirīkṣyaḥ samabhavad yugāntāgnirivotthitaḥ |

That Daitya, his bow ever drawn, like the sun ringed with a halo, became terrible to look upon, like the fire of doomsday risen up.

Verse 16 (skanda.8.80.16)

अथैवमस्यतो व्यास वरुणः कार्मुकं तदा । चिच्छेद सुमहद्धीमाँस्तर्जयन्दानवेश्वरम् ।

athaivamasyato vyāsa varuṇaḥ kārmukaṁ tadā | ciccheda sumahaddhīmā~starjayandānaveśvaram |

Then, O Vyasa, as he loosed his shafts thus, the wise Varuna severed his great bow, rebuking that lord of the Danavas.

Verse 17 (skanda.8.80.17)

वायुस्तीक्ष्णशरैस्तस्य कवचं सर्वतोहरत् । धनेशोशनिघातेन गजमस्य न्यसूदयत् ।

vāyustīkṣṇaśaraistasya kavacaṁ sarvatoharat | dhaneśośanighātena gajamasya nyasūdayat |

Vayu, with his sharp arrows, stripped away his armor on every side; and Kubera, with the blow of a thunderbolt weapon, slew his elephant.

Verse 18 (skanda.8.80.18)

तं तथा निकृतं दृष्टवा बलिर्बाणश्च तावुभौ । प्रह्लादो भ्रातृभिः सार्ध लोकपालानुपाद्रवन् ।

taṁ tathā nikṛtaṁ dṛṣṭavā balirbāṇaśca tāvubhau | prahlādo bhrātṛbhiḥ sārdha lokapālānupādravan |

Seeing him thus overpowered, Bali and Bana, both of them, and Prahrada too together with his brothers, rushed upon the guardians of the quarters.

Verse 19 (skanda.8.80.19)

तेषामापततामेव लोकपाला महाबलाः । शरैराशीविषाकारैश्चक्ररक्षानपोथयन् ।

teṣāmāpatatāmeva lokapālā mahābalāḥ | śarairāśīviṣākāraiścakrarakṣānapothayan |

As they charged, the mighty guardians of the quarters, with arrows shaped like venomous serpents, beat down the guards of their chariot-wheels.

Verse 20 (skanda.8.80.20)

वायुर्बाणस्य विशिखैः कार्मुकाणि विकर्षतः । चिच्छेद युगपद् व्यास तदद्भुतमिवाभवत् ।

vāyurbāṇasya viśikhaiḥ kārmukāṇi vikarṣataḥ | ciccheda yugapad vyāsa tadadbhutamivābhavat |

Vayu, O Vyasa, with his shafts, severed at one single stroke the bows Bana was drawing - it seemed a wondrous thing.

Verse 21 (skanda.8.80.21)

विच्छिन्नधन्वा स क्रुद्धस्तोमराणि तदासृजत् । चिक्षेप तानि वेगेन वायुरन्यां दिशं पुनः ।

vicchinnadhanvā sa kruddhastomarāṇi tadāsṛjat | cikṣepa tāni vegena vāyuranyāṁ diśaṁ punaḥ |

His bow shattered, he in fury then hurled lances instead; Vayu again cast them aside with great force, toward another direction.

Verse 22 (skanda.8.80.22)

हयाँश्च पुनरेवास्य शरैः सन्नतपर्वभिः । ससूतान् परमायस्तो ह्यनयद्यमसादनम् ।

hayā~śca punarevāsya śaraiḥ sannataparvabhiḥ | sasūtān paramāyasto hyanayadyamasādanam |

Then, greatly wearied, Vayu, with straight-jointed arrows, sent Bana's horses, together with his charioteer, to the abode of Yama.

Verse 23 (skanda.8.80.23)

स रथाद्बलिजः क्रोधादवप्लुत्य महाबलः । गदां गृहीत्वा वेगेन श्वसनं समुपाद्रवत् ।

sa rathādbalijaḥ krodhādavaplutya mahābalaḥ | gadāṁ gṛhītvā vegena śvasanaṁ samupādravat |

Then the mighty son of Bali (Bana), leaping down from his chariot in fury, seized a mace and rushed swiftly at Vayu.

Verse 24 (skanda.8.80.24)

तस्यापतत एवाशु सगदस्यानिलस्तथा । शरैराशीविषाकारैर्गदां तां समकृन्तत ।

tasyāpatata evāśu sagadasyānilastathā | śarairāśīviṣākārairgadāṁ tāṁ samakṛntata |

As he charged with his mace, Vayu at once, with arrows shaped like venomous serpents, cut that mace to pieces.

Verse 25 (skanda.8.80.25)

स निकृत्तगदश्चापि बाणः प्रहरतां वरः । प्रगृह्य तु गदामन्यां चिक्षेप च जहास च ।

sa nikṛttagadaścāpi bāṇaḥ praharatāṁ varaḥ | pragṛhya tu gadāmanyāṁ cikṣepa ca jahāsa ca |

Bana, that foremost of strikers, though his mace was thus cut down, seized another mace, hurled it, and laughed.

Verse 26 (skanda.8.80.26)

तामापतन्तीं वेगेन गदां बाणस्य खेचरीम् । आक्षिप्य वायुर्व्यधमदन्यां दिशमदीनवत् ।

tāmāpatantīṁ vegena gadāṁ bāṇasya khecarīm | ākṣipya vāyurvyadhamadanyāṁ diśamadīnavat |

As that mace of Bana's came flying through the air with great speed, Vayu, without dismay, seized and hurled it aside toward another direction.

Verse 27 (skanda.8.80.27)

विरथं तमथालक्ष्य वायुना च भृशार्द्दितम् । पुत्रं बलिर्द्रुतं व्यास स्वरथे समपादयत् ।

virathaṁ tamathālakṣya vāyunā ca bhṛśārdditam | putraṁ balirdrutaṁ vyāsa svarathe samapādayat |

Then Bali, seeing his son without a chariot and sorely afflicted by Vayu, O Vyasa, quickly placed him upon his own chariot.

Verse 28 (skanda.8.80.28)

तावेकरथसंयत्तौ बभूतुर्दानवेश्वरौ । सूर्याचन्द्रमसौ यद्वत् पूर्णमास्यां समागतौ ।

tāvekarathasaṁyattau babhūturdānaveśvarau | sūryācandramasau yadvat pūrṇamāsyāṁ samāgatau |

Those two lords of the Danavas, now together upon a single chariot, shone like the sun and moon come together on the night of the full moon.

Verse 29 (skanda.8.80.29)

अथ तेषाञ्च तेषाञ्च तद्युद्धमभवत्तदा । तान्निरुद्धानथाज्ञाय लोकपालैर्महाबलैः ।

atha teṣāñca teṣāñca tadyuddhamabhavattadā | tānniruddhānathājñāya lokapālairmahābalaiḥ |

Then a battle raged there between this side and that... (the middle line of this verse is wholly lost in the source manuscript) ...and then, the mighty guardians of the quarters, having perceived them checked,

निवातकवचाः सर्वे कालकेयाश्च दंशिताः । पौलोमाः सैंहिकेयाश्च शम्बरः कालशम्बरः ।

nivātakavacāḥ sarve kālakeyāśca daṁśitāḥ | paulomāḥ saiṁhikeyāśca śambaraḥ kālaśambaraḥ |

all the Nivatakavachas and the armored Kalakeyas, the Paulomas and the sons of Simhika, Shambara and Kalashambara,

Verse 31 (skanda.8.80.31)

अन्धकश्च महादैत्यो हिरण्याक्षश्च विश्रुतः । सर्वे व्यूहममुञ्चन्तो दानवा युद्धलालसाः ।

andhakaśca mahādaityo hiraṇyākṣaśca viśrutaḥ | sarve vyūhamamuñcanto dānavā yuddhalālasāḥ |

and the great Daitya Andhaka, and the renowned Hiranyaksha - all the Danavas, eager for battle, abandoning their formation,

Verse 32 (skanda.8.80.32)

चक्रुर्वेगं महावेगाः समेघा इव सानवः । तानापतत एवाथ यमो दण्डेन वीर्यवान् ।

cakrurvegaṁ mahāvegāḥ sameghā iva sānavaḥ | tānāpatata evātha yamo daṇḍena vīryavān |

surged forward with tremendous speed, like mountain peaks capped with cloud; then, as they charged, the mighty Yama with his rod

Verse 33 (skanda.8.80.33)

अवारयत ते तस्थुश्चित्रपट्ट इवार्पिताः । तान् यमस्य भयाद् दैत्यान् दृष्ट्वा सर्वानवस्थितान् ।

avārayata te tasthuścitrapaṭṭa ivārpitāḥ | tān yamasya bhayād daityān dṛṣṭvā sarvānavasthitān |

checked them; and they stood still, as if painted upon a canvas. Seeing all those Daityas thus halted for fear of Yama,

Verse 34 (skanda.8.80.34)

अन्धको यममभ्येत्य तिष्ठतिष्ठेति चाब्रवीत् । महता स रथेनैत्य धनुर्विस्फाल्य चासकृत् ।

andhako yamamabhyetya tiṣṭhatiṣṭheti cābravīt | mahatā sa rathenaitya dhanurvisphālya cāsakṛt |

Andhaka approached Yama and said, "Stand, stand!" Coming on his great chariot, and repeatedly twanging his bow,

Verse 35 (skanda.8.80.35)

यमं ललाटे दशभिर्बाणैर्विव्याध वीर्यवान् । पञ्चभिर्महिषं चास्य षड्भिः कालं तथाग्रतः ।

yamaṁ lalāṭe daśabhirbāṇairvivyādha vīryavān | pañcabhirmahiṣaṁ cāsya ṣaḍbhiḥ kālaṁ tathāgrataḥ |

that mighty one pierced Yama's forehead with ten arrows, his buffalo with five, and Kala standing before him with six,

Verse 36 (skanda.8.80.36)

मृत्युञ्च दशभिश्चैव कृतान्तं चैव सप्तभिः । भ्रामयन् स पुनश्चापमिन्द्रायुधसमप्रभम् ।

mṛtyuñca daśabhiścaiva kṛtāntaṁ caiva saptabhiḥ | bhrāmayan sa punaścāpamindrāyudhasamaprabham |

and Death with ten, and Kritanta with seven; then, whirling once more his bow, bright as Indra's own weapon,

Verse 37 (skanda.8.80.37)

ननादाम्बुदवच्चैव पुनर्विव्याध दैवतम् । हिरण्याक्षसुतो ज्येष्ठो ह्यन्धकोहं महाबलः ।

nanādāmbudavaccaiva punarvivyādha daivatam | hiraṇyākṣasuto jyeṣṭho hyandhakohaṁ mahābalaḥ |

he roared like a cloud, and again pierced that god: "I am Andhaka, the eldest son of Hiranyaksha, mighty of strength,"

Verse 38 (skanda.8.80.38)

ब्रह्मणा च वरो दत्तो मह्यमित्यवघोषयन् । तस्यैवं वदतस्तूर्णं सूर्यपुत्रः प्रतापवान् ।

brahmaṇā ca varo datto mahyamityavaghoṣayan | tasyaivaṁ vadatastūrṇaṁ sūryaputraḥ pratāpavān |

"and a boon has been given to me by Brahma!" - thus he proclaimed. As he spoke so, the mighty and glorious son of the Sun, Yama, at once,

Verse 39 (skanda.8.80.39)

रथं चिच्छेद संक्रुद्धो दण्डेन विनिपातयन् । सकार्मुके रथे तत्र मथिते ह्यन्धकस्तदा ।

rathaṁ ciccheda saṁkruddho daṇḍena vinipātayan | sakārmuke rathe tatra mathite hyandhakastadā |

in fury, shattered his chariot with his rod, striking it to the ground. When that chariot, together with its bow, lay smashed there, Andhaka then

Verse 40 (skanda.8.80.40)

गदामुद्यम्य वेगेन प्रेताधिपमथाद्रवत् । तस्य तां दण्डघातेन गदां सोप्यवचूर्णयत् ।

gadāmudyamya vegena pretādhipamathādravat | tasya tāṁ daṇḍaghātena gadāṁ sopyavacūrṇayat |

swiftly seized a mace and charged at the lord of the departed, Yama; but Yama too, with a blow of his rod, pulverized that mace as well.

Verse 41 (skanda.8.80.41)

शिरस्येनं पुनः क्रुद्धो दण्डेन समताडयत् ।

śirasyenaṁ punaḥ kruddho daṇḍena samatāḍayat |

Then, enraged once more, Yama struck him upon the head with his rod... (the remainder of this verse is lost in the source manuscript).

Verse 42 (skanda.8.80.42)

जितेन्द्रियो मुनिर्यद्वत् स्पृष्टो विषयगोचरैः । अथाप्रतिहतं दण्डमन्धकेन पराहतम् ।

jitendriyo muniryadvat spṛṣṭo viṣayagocaraiḥ | athāpratihataṁ daṇḍamandhakena parāhatam |

Like a sage of subdued senses, untouched even when brushed by objects of sense, Andhaka remained unmoved. Then that otherwise irresistible rod of Yama's was itself struck back and checked by Andhaka.

Verse 43 (skanda.8.80.43)

पुरः प्रतिहतं दृष्ट्वा जहसुर्दानवेश्वराः । सिंहनादान् सवादित्रान् बाहुशब्दाँश्च सुस्वरान् ।

puraḥ pratihataṁ dṛṣṭvā jahasurdānaveśvarāḥ | siṁhanādān savāditrān bāhuśabdā~śca susvarān |

Seeing that rod thus checked before them, the lords of the Danavas laughed, and raised lion-roars mingled with instruments, and sweet-sounding claps of their arms.

Verse 44 (skanda.8.80.44)

चक्रुः साध्वन्धकेत्येवं चुक्रुशुश्च मुहुर्मुहुः । अन्धकोपि तदाभ्येत्य नर्दमानो यथार्णवः ।

cakruḥ sādhvandhaketyevaṁ cukruśuśca muhurmuhuḥ | andhakopi tadābhyetya nardamāno yathārṇavaḥ |

They cried out again and again, "Well done, Andhaka, well done!" Andhaka too, roaring then like the ocean, came forward,

Verse 45 (skanda.8.80.45)

तलेनाहत्य महिषाद्यमं भूमौ न्यपातयत् । ततो हाहाकृतं देवैर्गृह्णगृह्णेति दानवैः ।

talenāhatya mahiṣādyamaṁ bhūmau nyapātayat | tato hāhākṛtaṁ devairgṛhṇagṛhṇeti dānavaiḥ |

and, striking Yama with the flat of his hand, felled him from his buffalo to the ground. Then a cry of woe arose among the gods, and among the Danavas the shout, "Seize him! Seize him!"

Verse 46 (skanda.8.80.46)

व्यूहभंगश्च देवानामभवच्छक्तिनन्दन । अथ मृत्युश्च कालश्च कृतान्तश्चेति ते त्रयः ।

vyūhabhaṁgaśca devānāmabhavacchaktinandana | atha mṛtyuśca kālaśca kṛtāntaśceti te trayaḥ |

O son of Shakti, the formation of the gods was broken. Then Death, Time, and Kritanta - those three -

Verse 47 (skanda.8.80.47)

अन्धकं बहुभिः पाशैर्बबन्धुः क्रोधमूर्च्छिताः । पाशाँश्चैव स दैत्येन्द्रो विच्छिद्य सुमहाबलः । बाहुपाशेन बलवान्कृतान्तमवबध्नत ।

andhakaṁ bahubhiḥ pāśairbabandhuḥ krodhamūrcchitāḥ | pāśā~ścaiva sa daityendro vicchidya sumahābalaḥ | bāhupāśena balavānkṛtāntamavabadhnata |

overcome with fury, bound Andhaka with many nooses; but that exceedingly mighty lord of the Daityas, severing those nooses, in his own strength bound Kritanta instead with the noose of his arm.

Verse 48 (skanda.8.80.48)

स बद्धो बाहुपाशेन कृतान्तः क्रोधमूर्छितः । उत्क्षिप्यान्धकमुद्धूतो निनाय बलवान् बलात् ।

sa baddho bāhupāśena kṛtāntaḥ krodhamūrchitaḥ | utkṣipyāndhakamuddhūto nināya balavān balāt |

Bound thus by the noose of his arm, Kritanta, overcome with fury, lifted Andhaka up, hoisted him aloft, and, mighty as he was, carried him off by force.

Verse 49 (skanda.8.80.49)

तं नीयमानं संप्रेक्ष्य हिरण्याक्षः सुतं स्वकम् । जघान सायकैस्तीक्ष्णैः कृतान्तं सुभृशं दृढम् ।

taṁ nīyamānaṁ saṁprekṣya hiraṇyākṣaḥ sutaṁ svakam | jaghāna sāyakaistīkṣṇaiḥ kṛtāntaṁ subhṛśaṁ dṛḍham |

Seeing his own son thus being carried away, Hiranyaksha struck Kritanta most severely and firmly with sharp arrows.

Verse 50 (skanda.8.80.50)

तस्य गात्राणि सर्वाणि सन्धीँश्चैव महाबलः । विव्याध निशितैर्बाणैः स विष्टब्धो व्यतिष्ठत ।

tasya gātrāṇi sarvāṇi sandhī~ścaiva mahābalaḥ | vivyādha niśitairbāṇaiḥ sa viṣṭabdho vyatiṣṭhata |

That mighty one pierced all his limbs and every joint with keen shafts, so that Kritanta, pinned fast, stood frozen in place.

Verse 51 (skanda.8.80.51)

तं बाणैर्विवृतं दृष्ट्वा देवाः सर्वे सवासवाः । रक्षन्तः समपद्यन्त भीमोद्यतकरायुधाः ।

taṁ bāṇairvivṛtaṁ dṛṣṭvā devāḥ sarve savāsavāḥ | rakṣantaḥ samapadyanta bhīmodyatakarāyudhāḥ |

Seeing him thus riddled with arrows, all the gods together with Indra rushed to protect him, their hands raised with fearsome weapons.

Verse 52 (skanda.8.80.52)

अथ किंखर मृदंगवेणुवीणापणवसुघोषकडिण्डिमानकानाम् । असुरसुरबले महान् तदानीं समभवदुग्रतरः स तूर्यनादः ।

atha kiṁkhara mṛdaṁgaveṇuvīṇāpaṇavasughoṣakaḍiṇḍimānakānām | asurasurabale mahān tadānīṁ samabhavadugrataraḥ sa tūryanādaḥ |

Then, from the kinkhara, mridangas, flutes, vinas, panavas, sughoshakas, dindimas, and anakas, there arose at that moment, in the armies of both Asuras and gods, a mighty and ever more terrible blare of trumpets.
