"—and also the reason why the king, though already awake, has not yet come." Having said this, that man versed in ancient lore came to the gate of the inner apartments.

Shloka 19 (ayodhya.15.19)

sadāsaktaṃ ca tadveśma sumantraḥ praviveśa ha | tuṣṭāvāsya tadā vaṃśaṃ praviśya sa viśāṃpateḥ || 15.19 ||

Sumantra entered that dwelling, always closely guarded; and having entered, he then praised the lineage of the lord of men.

With blessings full of merit he extolled the king: "O descendant of Kakutstha, may the moon and the sun, and Shiva and Vaishravana too—"

Shloka 22 (ayodhya.15.22)

"Awaken, O tiger among kings, and do what is next to be done. The brahmins, the chiefs of the army, and the guild-leaders have all arrived here."

Shloka 24 (ayodhya.15.24)

darśanaṃ te'bhikāṅkṣante pratibuddhyasva rāghava | stuvantaṃ taṃ tadā sūtaṃ sumantraṃ mantrakovidam || 15.24 ||

"They long for a sight of you—awaken, O Raghava!" The king then spoke to Sumantra, the charioteer skilled in counsel, as he stood there praising him.

Shloka 25 (ayodhya.15.25)

Then, having awoken, the king spoke this word: "O charioteer, since I had already told you to bring Rama here—"

Shloka 26 (ayodhya.15.26)

किमिदं कारणं येन ममाज्ञा प्रतिवाह्यते । न चैव संप्रसुप्तोऽहमानयेहाशु राघवम् ।। १५.२६ ।।

kimidaṃ kāraṇaṃ yena mamājñā prativāhyate | na caiva saṃprasupto'hamānayehāśu rāghavam || 15.26 ||

"—what is the reason my command is still being set aside? I was surely not asleep. Bring Raghava here quickly."

Shloka 27 (ayodhya.15.27)

Thus King Dasharatha again commanded the charioteer there; and he, having heard the king's word, honoured him with a bow of his head.

Shloka 28 (ayodhya.15.28)

निर्जगाम नृपावासान्मन्यमानः प्रियं महत् । प्रपन्नो राजमार्गं च पताकाध्वजशोभितम् ।। १५.२८ ।।

nirjagāma nṛpāvāsānmanyamānaḥ priyaṃ mahat | prapanno rājamārgaṃ ca patākādhvajaśobhitam || 15.28 ||

He went forth from the king's dwelling, feeling this as a great favour done to him, and made his way onto the royal road, adorned with flags and banners.

Then, unopposed, the charioteer entered that place—resembling a mountain peak or a massed cloud, filled with mansions like great celestial cars—as a sea-monster enters the ocean rich with abundant gems.
