Shloka 1 (uttara.110.1)

adhyardhayojanaṃ gatvā nadīṃ paścānmukhāśritām | sarayūṃ puṇyasalilāṃ dadarśa raghunandanaḥ || 7.110.1 ||

Having journeyed a league and a half, the joy of the Raghus beheld the river Sarayu, its waters sacred, flowing toward the west.

Shloka 2 (uttara.110.2)

tāṃ nadīm ākulāvartāṃ sarvatrānusaran nṛpaḥ | āgataḥ saprajo rāmas taṃ deśaṃ raghunandanaḥ || 7.110.2 ||

Following the course of that river, thick with eddies, everywhere along its bank, King Rama, the joy of the Raghus, together with his people, arrived at that place.

Shloka 3 (uttara.110.3)

atha tasmin muhūrte tu brahmā lokapitāmahaḥ | sarvaiḥ parivṛto devair ṛṣibhiś ca mahātmabhiḥ || 7.110.3 ||

Then, at that very moment, Brahma, grandsire of all worlds, surrounded by all the gods and by the great-souled sages, arrived there.

Shloka 4 (uttara.110.4)

āyayau yatra kākutsthaḥ svargāya samupasthitaḥ | vimānaśatakoṭībhir divyābhir abhisaṃvṛtaḥ || 7.110.4 ||

He came to the place where Kakutstha stood ready to depart for heaven, surrounded by hundreds of millions of celestial chariots.

Shloka 5 (uttara.110.5)

divyatejovṛtaṃ vyoma jyotirbhūtam anuttamam | svayamprabhaiḥ svatejobhiḥ svargibhiḥ puṇyakarmabhiḥ || 7.110.5 ||

The sky, wrapped in celestial radiance, grew supremely luminous with the self-shining, self-luminous denizens of heaven, those of holy deeds.

Shloka 6 (uttara.110.6)

puṇyā vātā vavuś caiva gandhavantaḥ sukhapradāḥ | papāta puṣpavṛṣṭiś ca devair muktā mahaughavat || 7.110.6 ||

Holy winds blew, fragrant and delightful, and a rain of flowers, released by the gods, fell like a great flood.

Shloka 7 (uttara.110.7)

tasmiṃs tūryaśataiḥ kīrṇe gandharvāpsarasaṅkule | sarayūsalilaṃ rāmaḥ padbhyāṃ samupacakrame || 7.110.7 ||

There, amid the din of hundreds of musical instruments, thronged with gandharvas and apsaras, Rama set his feet into the waters of the Sarayu.

Shloka 8 (uttara.110.8)

tataḥ pitāmaho vāṇīm antarikṣād abhāṣata | āgaccha viṣṇo bhadraṃ te diṣṭyā prāpto 'si rāghava || 7.110.8 ||

Then the grandsire spoke this word from the sky: "Come, Vishnu, blessings upon you; fortunately, Raghava, you have arrived."

Shloka 9 (uttara.110.9)

bhrātṛbhiḥ saha devābhaiḥ praviśasva svikāṃ tanum | yām icchasi mahābāho tāṃ tanuṃ praviśa svikām | vaiṣṇavīṃ tāṃ mahātejas tad vākāśaṃ sanātanam || 7.110.9 ||

"Together with your brothers, splendid as gods, enter your own true form. Mighty-armed one, enter whichever form you desire -- your own Vaishnava form, O greatly radiant one, that eternal radiance vast as the sky."

Shloka 10 (uttara.110.10)

tvaṃ hi lokagatir deva na tvāṃ kecit prajānate | ṛte māyāṃ viśālākṣīṃ tava pūrvaparigrahām | tvām acintyaṃ mahad bhūtam akṣayaṃ sarvasaṅgraham || 7.110.10 ||

"You, O god, are the very course of all the worlds -- you, the inconceivable, the great being, imperishable, the ground of all things; none know you, save your wide-eyed Maya, your consort from the beginning."

Shloka 11 (uttara.110.11)

yām icchasi mahātejas tāṃ tanuṃ praviśa svayam || 7.110.11 ||

"O greatly radiant one, enter of your own will whatever form you desire."

Shloka 12 (uttara.110.12)

pitāmahavacaḥ śrutvā viniścitya mahāmatiḥ | viveśa vaiṣṇavaṃ tejaḥ saśarīraḥ sahānujaḥ || 7.110.12 ||

Hearing the grandsire's words, and having made his resolve, the wise one entered the Vaishnava radiance, in his own body, together with his younger brother.

Shloka 13 (uttara.110.13)

tato viṣṇumayaṃ devaṃ pūjayanti sma devatāḥ | sādhyā marudgaṇāś caiva sendrāḥ sāgnipurogamāḥ || 7.110.13 ||

Then the gods worshipped that deity, now one with Vishnu -- the Sadhyas, the Maruts, together with Indra, with Agni at their head.

Shloka 14 (uttara.110.14)

ye ca divyā ṛṣigaṇā gandharvāpsarasaś ca yāḥ | suparṇanāgayakṣāś ca daityadānavarākṣasāḥ || 7.110.14 ||

And the divine sages, the gandharvas and apsaras, the suparnas, nagas and yakshas, and the daityas, danavas and rakshasas too.

Shloka 15 (uttara.110.15)

sarvaṃ puṣṭaṃ pramuditaṃ susampūrṇamanoratham | sādhu sādhv iti tair devais tridivaṃ gatakalmaṣam || 7.110.15 ||

Everything grew abundant, joyful, its desires wholly fulfilled; and, with the gods crying "Well done, well done!", heaven became free of all stain.

Shloka 16 (uttara.110.16)

atha viṣṇur mahātejāḥ pitāmaham uvāca ha | eṣāṃ lokaṃ janaughānāṃ dātum arhasi suvrata || 7.110.16 ||

Then the greatly radiant Vishnu said to the grandsire: "You should grant a world, O virtuous one, to these multitudes of people as well."

Shloka 17 (uttara.110.17)

ime hi sarve snehān mām anuyātā yaśasvinaḥ | bhaktā hi bhajitavyāś ca tyaktātmānaś ca matkṛte || 7.110.17 ||

"All these glorious ones have followed me out of love; being devoted to me they deserve to be cherished, for they have given up their very lives for my sake."

Shloka 18 (uttara.110.18)

tac chrutvā viṣṇuvacanaṃ brahmā lokaguruḥ prabhuḥ | lokān sāntānikān nāma yāsyantīme samāgatāḥ || 7.110.18 ||

Hearing this word of Vishnu's, Brahma, the lord and teacher of all worlds, said: "These who have gathered here shall go to the worlds called Santanika."

Shloka 19 (uttara.110.19)

yac ca tiryaggataṃ kiñcit tvām evam anucintayat | prāṇāṃs tyakṣyati bhaktyā vai tatsantāne nivatsyati || 7.110.19 ||

"And whatever creature born in an animal womb, thinking of you thus, shall give up its life in devotion, shall dwell in that same Santanika realm."

Shloka 20 (uttara.110.20)

sarvair brahmaguṇair yukte brahmalokād anantare || 7.110.20 ||

"-- which lies immediately next to the Brahma-world, and is endowed with all the qualities of the Brahma-world."

Shloka 21 (uttara.110.21)

vānarāś ca svikāṃ yonim ṛkṣāś caiva tathā yayuḥ | yebhyo vinissṛtāḥ sarve surebhyaḥ surasambhavāḥ || 7.110.21 ||

The vanaras, and the bears likewise, went to their own birth-source -- back to those very gods, of divine origin, from whom they had all sprung.

Shloka 22 (uttara.110.22)

teṣu praviviśe caiva sugrīvaḥ sūryamaṇḍalam | paśyatāṃ sarvadevānāṃ svān pitṝn pratipedire || 7.110.22 ||

Among them, Sugriva, before the eyes of all the gods, entered into the disc of the sun; and the rest attained to their own divine forebears.

Shloka 23 (uttara.110.23)

tathoktavati deveśe gopratāram upāgatāḥ | bhejire sarayūṃ sarve harṣapūrṇāśruviklavāḥ || 7.110.23 ||

When the lord of gods had spoken thus, all of them, having reached the ford, entered the Sarayu, overcome with tears of joy.

Shloka 24 (uttara.110.24)

avagāhya jalaṃ yo yaḥ prāṇī hy āsīt prahṛṣṭavat | mānuṣaṃ deham utsṛjya vimānaṃ so 'dhyarohata || 7.110.24 ||

Whatever living being plunged into that water, joyfully casting off its human body, ascended into a celestial chariot.

Shloka 25 (uttara.110.25)

tiryagyonigatānāṃ ca śatāni sarayūjalam | samprāpya tridivaṃ jagmuḥ prabhāsuravapūṃṣi ca | divyā divyena vapuṣā devā dīptā ivābhavan || 7.110.25 ||

And hundreds of creatures too, born in animal wombs, upon reaching the waters of the Sarayu, went to the third heaven, taking on radiant, luminous bodies; divine, with their divine forms, they shone forth as if they were the gods themselves.

Shloka 26 (uttara.110.26)

gatvā tu sarayūtoyaṃ sthāvarāṇi carāṇi ca | prāpya tattoyavikledaṃ devalokam upāgaman || 7.110.26 ||

And the unmoving and the moving creatures too, having gone into the waters of the Sarayu, attaining the wetness of that water, reached the world of the gods.

Shloka 27 (uttara.110.27)

tasminn api samāpannā ṛkṣavānararākṣasāḥ | te 'pi svargaṃ praviviśur dehān nikṣipya cāmbhasi || 7.110.27 ||

Immersed in that same water, the bears, vanaras and rakshasas too, casting off their bodies in it, entered heaven.

Shloka 28 (uttara.110.28)

tataḥ samāgatān sarvān sthāpya lokagurur divi | jagāma tridaśaiḥ sārdhaṃ sadā hṛṣṭair divaṃ mahat || 7.110.28 ||

Then, having established all those gathered ones in heaven, the teacher of the worlds went, together with the ever-joyful gods, to that great celestial realm.
