Shloka 1 (yuddha.105.1)

ततो युद्धपरिश्रान्तं समरे चिन्तया स्थितम्। रावणं चाग्रतो दृष्ट्वा युद्धाय समुपस्थितम् ॥ 105.1 ॥

tato yuddhapariśrāntaṃ samare cintayā sthitam| rāvaṇaṃ cāgrato dṛṣṭvā yuddhāya samupasthitam || 105.1 ||

Then, seeing Rama standing in the battle, worn out by the fight and sunk in thought, with Ravana before him ready once more for combat,

Shloka 2 (yuddha.105.2)

दैवतैश्च समागम्य द्रष्टुमभ्यागतो रणम्। उपगम्याब्रवीद्राममगस्त्यो भगवान् ऋषिः ॥ 105.2 ॥

daivataiśca samāgamya draṣṭumabhyāgato raṇam| upagamyābravīdrāmamagastyo bhagavān ṛṣiḥ || 105.2 ||

the blessed sage Agastya, who had come together with the gods to witness that battle, approached Rama and spoke to him:

Shloka 3 (yuddha.105.3)

राम राम महाबाहो शृणु गुह्यं सनातनम्। येन सर्वानरीन्वत्स समरे विजयिष्यसे ॥ 105.3 ॥

rāma rāma mahābāho śṛṇu guhyaṃ sanātanam| yena sarvānarīnvatsa samare vijayiṣyase || 105.3 ||

"O Rama, Rama, mighty-armed one! Hear this eternal secret, by which, my child, you shall conquer all your enemies in battle.

Shloka 4 (yuddha.105.4)

आदित्यहृदयं पुण्यं सर्वशत्रुविनाशनम्। जयावहं जपेन्नित्यमक्षय्यं परमं शिवम् ॥ 105.4 ॥

ādityahṛdayaṃ puṇyaṃ sarvaśatruvināśanam| jayāvahaṃ japennityamakṣayyaṃ paramaṃ śivam || 105.4 ||

"This is the Aditya Hridaya — holy, the destroyer of all enemies, bestower of victory when recited daily, imperishable and supremely auspicious;

Shloka 5 (yuddha.105.5)

सर्वमङ्गलमङ्गल्यं सर्वपापप्रणाशनम्। चिन्ताशोकप्रशमनमायुर्वर्धनमुत्तमम् ॥ 105.5 ॥

sarvamaṅgalamaṅgalyaṃ sarvapāpapraṇāśanam| cintāśokapraśamanamāyurvardhanamuttamam || 105.5 ||

the blessing of all blessings, the destroyer of all sins, the queller of anxiety and grief, and the supreme prolonger of life.

Shloka 6 (yuddha.105.6)

रश्मिमन्तं समुद्यन्तं देवासुरनमस्कृतम्। पूजयस्व विवस्वन्तं भास्करं भुवनेश्वरम् ॥ 105.6 ॥

raśmimantaṃ samudyantaṃ devāsuranamaskṛtam| pūjayasva vivasvantaṃ bhāskaraṃ bhuvaneśvaram || 105.6 ||

"Worship the radiant, rising sun, Vivasvat, to whom gods and demons alike bow, the light-maker, lord of all the worlds.

Shloka 7 (yuddha.105.7)

सर्वदेवात्मको ह्येष तेजस्वी रश्मिभावनः। एष देवासुरगणान् लोकान् पाति गभस्तिभिः ॥ 105.7 ॥

sarvadevātmako hyeṣa tejasvī raśmibhāvanaḥ| eṣa devāsuragaṇān lokān pāti gabhastibhiḥ || 105.7 ||

"For he is the very self of all the gods, radiant, the source of all light; with his rays he protects the hosts of gods and demons, and all the worlds.

Shloka 8 (yuddha.105.8)

एष ब्रह्मा च विष्णुश्च शिवः स्कन्दः प्रजापतिः। महेन्द्रो धनदः कालो यमः सोमो ह्यपांपतिः ॥ 105.8 ॥

eṣa brahmā ca viṣṇuśca śivaḥ skandaḥ prajāpatiḥ| mahendro dhanadaḥ kālo yamaḥ somo hyapāṃpatiḥ || 105.8 ||

"He is Brahma, and Vishnu, and Shiva, and Skanda, and Prajapati; he is great Indra, Kubera the lord of wealth, Kala the Time-spirit, Yama, Soma, and Varuna the lord of waters.

Shloka 9 (yuddha.105.9)

पितरो वसवः साध्या अश्विनौ मरुतो मनुः। वायुर्वह्निः प्रजाः प्राण ऋतुकर्ता प्रभाकरः ॥ 105.9 ॥

pitaro vasavaḥ sādhyā aśvinau maruto manuḥ| vāyurvahniḥ prajāḥ prāṇa ṛtukartā prabhākaraḥ || 105.9 ||

"He is the ancestral spirits, the Vasus, the Sadhyas, the two Ashvins, the Maruts, Manu; he is Vayu, Agni, all living creatures, the very breath of life, the maker of the seasons, the giver of light.

Shloka 10 (yuddha.105.10)

आदित्यः सविता सूर्यः खगः पूषा गभस्तिमान्। सुवर्णसदृशो भानुर्हिरण्यरेता दिवाकरः ॥ 105.10 ॥

ādityaḥ savitā sūryaḥ khagaḥ pūṣā gabhastimān| suvarṇasadṛśo bhānurhiraṇyaretā divākaraḥ || 105.10 ||

"He is Aditya, Savitr, Surya, Khaga the sky-goer, Pusha, the possessor of rays, golden-hued Bhanu, Hiranyaretas of golden seed, and Divakara the maker of the day.

Shloka 11 (yuddha.105.11)

हरिदश्वः सहस्रार्चिः सप्तसप्तिर्मरीचिमान्। तिमिरोन्मथनः शम्भुस्त्वष्टा मार्तण्डकोऽंशुमान् ॥ 105.11 ॥

haridaśvaḥ sahasrārciḥ saptasaptirmarīcimān| timironmathanaḥ śambhustvaṣṭā mārtaṇḍako'ṃśumān || 105.11 ||

"He whose steeds are tawny, thousand-rayed, seven-horsed, full of radiance, dispeller of darkness, Shambhu, Tvashtr the fashioner, Martanda, and the possessor of light.

Shloka 12 (yuddha.105.12)

हिरण्यगर्भः शिशिरस्तपनोऽहस्करो रविः। अग्निगर्भोऽदितेः पुत्रः शङ्खः शिशिरनाशनः ॥ 105.12 ॥

hiraṇyagarbhaḥ śiśirastapano'haskaro raviḥ| agnigarbho'diteḥ putraḥ śaṅkhaḥ śiśiranāśanaḥ || 105.12 ||

"He is Hiranyagarbha, the cooling one, the scorcher, the day-maker, Ravi; fire-wombed, son of Aditi, Shankha, the destroyer of frost.

Shloka 13 (yuddha.105.13)

व्योमनाथस्तमोभेदी ऋग्यजुःसामपारगः। घनवृष्टिरपां मित्रो विन्ध्यवीथीप्लवंगमः ॥ 105.13 ॥

vyomanāthastamobhedī ṛgyajuḥsāmapāragaḥ| ghanavṛṣṭirapāṃ mitro vindhyavīthīplavaṃgamaḥ || 105.13 ||

"Lord of the sky, disperser of darkness, master of the Rig, Yajur and Sama Vedas; sender of dense rain, friend of the waters, swift traveller along the Vindhya path of the sky.

Shloka 14 (yuddha.105.14)

आतपी मण्डली मृत्युः पिङ्गलः सर्वतापनः। कविर्विश्वो महातेजा रक्तः सर्वभवोद्भवः ॥ 105.14 ॥

ātapī maṇḍalī mṛtyuḥ piṅgalaḥ sarvatāpanaḥ| kavirviśvo mahātejā raktaḥ sarvabhavodbhavaḥ || 105.14 ||

"The radiator of heat, the orb, Death himself, tawny-hued, the warmer of all; the seer, all-formed, of immense splendour, the beloved of all, the source from which all existence springs.

Shloka 15 (yuddha.105.15)

नक्षत्रग्रहताराणामधिपो विश्वभावनः। तेजसामपि तेजस्वी द्वादशात्मन्नमोऽस्तु ते ॥ 105.15 ॥

nakṣatragrahatārāṇāmadhipo viśvabhāvanaḥ| tejasāmapi tejasvī dvādaśātmannamo'stu te || 105.15 ||

"Lord of the constellations, planets, and stars, the creator of the universe, the most radiant among the radiant — O twelve-formed one, salutation to you!

Shloka 16 (yuddha.105.16)

नमः पूर्वाय गिरये पश्चिमायाद्रये नमः। ज्योतिर्गणानां पतये दिनाधिपतये नमः ॥ 105.16 ॥

namaḥ pūrvāya giraye paścimāyādraye namaḥ| jyotirgaṇānāṃ pataye dinādhipataye namaḥ || 105.16 ||

"Salutation to you as the eastern mountain, and salutation to you as the western mountain; salutation to the lord of the hosts of luminaries, salutation to the lord of the day.

Shloka 17 (yuddha.105.17)

जयाय जयभद्राय हर्यश्वाय नमो नमः। नमो नमः सहस्रांशो आदित्याय नमो नमः ॥ 105.17 ॥

jayāya jayabhadrāya haryaśvāya namo namaḥ| namo namaḥ sahasrāṃśo ādityāya namo namaḥ || 105.17 ||

"Salutation, salutation to Victory, to Blessed-Victory, to the one whose horses are tawny; salutation, salutation, O thousand-rayed one; salutation, salutation to Aditya.

Shloka 18 (yuddha.105.18)

नम उग्राय वीराय सारङ्गाय नमो नमः। नमः पद्मप्रबोधाय प्रचण्डाय नमोऽस्तु ते ॥ 105.18 ॥

nama ugrāya vīrāya sāraṅgāya namo namaḥ| namaḥ padmaprabodhāya pracaṇḍāya namo'stu te || 105.18 ||

"Salutation to the fierce one, to the hero; salutation, salutation to the many-hued one; salutation to the awakener of the lotus; salutation be to you, O fiery one.

Shloka 19 (yuddha.105.19)

ब्रह्मेशानाच्युतेशाय सूर्यायादित्यवर्चसे। भास्वते सर्वभक्षाय रौद्राय वपुषे नमः ॥ 105.19 ॥

brahmeśānācyuteśāya sūryāyādityavarcase| bhāsvate sarvabhakṣāya raudrāya vapuṣe namaḥ || 105.19 ||

"Salutation to the ruler of Brahma, Shiva and Achyuta (Vishnu), to Surya, to the splendour that dwells within the solar orb, to the radiant one, the devourer of all, to him whose form is that of Rudra.

Shloka 20 (yuddha.105.20)

तमोघ्नाय हिमघ्नाय शत्रुघ्नायामितात्मने। कृतघ्नघ्नाय देवाय ज्योतिषां पतये नमः ॥ 105.20 ॥

tamoghnāya himaghnāya śatrughnāyāmitātmane| kṛtaghnaghnāya devāya jyotiṣāṃ pataye namaḥ || 105.20 ||

"Salutation to the dispeller of darkness, the destroyer of cold, the destroyer of enemies, the one of immeasurable self; the destroyer of the ungrateful, the god who is lord of all lights.

Shloka 21 (yuddha.105.21)

तप्तचामीकराभाय हरये विश्वकर्मणे। नमस्तमोभिनिघ्नाय रुचये लोकसाक्षिणे ॥ 105.21 ॥

taptacāmīkarābhāya haraye viśvakarmaṇe| namastamobhinighnāya rucaye lokasākṣiṇe || 105.21 ||

"Salutation to him whose lustre is like molten gold, to Hari, the architect of the universe; salutation to the destroyer of darkness, to the radiance itself, the witness of all the worlds.

Shloka 22 (yuddha.105.22)

नाशयत्येष वै भूतं तदेव सृजति प्रभुः। पायत्येष तपत्येष वर्षत्येष गभस्तिभिः ॥ 105.22 ॥

nāśayatyeṣa vai bhūtaṃ tadeva sṛjati prabhuḥ| pāyatyeṣa tapatyeṣa varṣatyeṣa gabhastibhiḥ || 105.22 ||

"This lord alone destroys all beings, and that same lord creates them anew; he nourishes, he gives heat, and with his rays he sends down the rain.

Shloka 23 (yuddha.105.23)

एष सुप्तेषु जागर्ति भूतेषु परिनिष्ठितः। एष चैवाग्निहोत्रं च फलं चैवाग्निहोत्रिणाम् ॥ 105.23 ॥

eṣa supteṣu jāgarti bhūteṣu pariniṣṭhitaḥ| eṣa caivāgnihotraṃ ca phalaṃ caivāgnihotriṇām || 105.23 ||

"Dwelling within all beings, he remains awake even while they sleep; he himself is the fire-oblation, and he is the fruit gained by those who offer it.

Shloka 24 (yuddha.105.24)

देवाश्च क्रतवश्चैव क्रतूनां फलमेव च। यानि कृत्यानि लोकेषु सर्वेषु परमप्रभुः ॥ 105.24 ॥

devāśca kratavaścaiva kratūnāṃ phalameva ca| yāni kṛtyāni lokeṣu sarveṣu paramaprabhuḥ || 105.24 ||

"He is the gods, and he is the sacrifices, and he is the very fruit of sacrifices; he, the supreme lord, is all the deeds performed in all the worlds.

Shloka 25 (yuddha.105.25)

एनमापत्सु कृच्छ्रेषु कान्तारेषु भयेषु च। कीर्तयन् पुरुषः कश्चिन्नावसीदति राघव ॥ 105.25 ॥

enamāpatsu kṛcchreṣu kāntāreṣu bhayeṣu ca| kīrtayan puruṣaḥ kaścinnāvasīdati rāghava || 105.25 ||

"O Raghava, no man who glorifies him in calamity, in hardship, in the wilderness, or in moments of fear, ever comes to grief.

Shloka 26 (yuddha.105.26)

पूजयस्वैनमेकाग्रो देवदेवं जगत्पतिम्। एतत्त्रिगुणितं जप्त्वा युद्धेषु विजयिष्यसि ॥ 105.26 ॥

pūjayasvainamekāgro devadevaṃ jagatpatim| etattriguṇitaṃ japtvā yuddheṣu vijayiṣyasi || 105.26 ||

"Worship him with single-pointed mind, this god of gods, lord of the universe; reciting this hymn three times over, you shall be victorious in battle.

Shloka 27 (yuddha.105.27)

अस्मिन् क्षणे महाबाहो रावणं त्वं वधिष्यसि। एवमुक्त्वा ततोऽगस्त्यो जगाम स यथागतम् ॥ 105.27 ॥

asmin kṣaṇe mahābāho rāvaṇaṃ tvaṃ vadhiṣyasi| evamuktvā tato'gastyo jagāma sa yathāgatam || 105.27 ||

"This very moment, O mighty-armed one, you shall slay Ravana." So saying, Agastya then departed, as he had come.

Shloka 28 (yuddha.105.28)

एतच्छ्रुत्वा महातेजा नष्टशोकोऽभवत्तदा। धारयामास सुप्रीतो राघवः प्रयतात्मवान् ॥ 105.28 ॥

etacchrutvā mahātejā naṣṭaśoko'bhavattadā| dhārayāmāsa suprīto rāghavaḥ prayatātmavān || 105.28 ||

Hearing this, the immensely radiant Raghava was at once freed of his sorrow; greatly delighted, with a mind made pure, he held this hymn fast in his memory.

Shloka 29 (yuddha.105.29)

आदित्यं प्रेक्ष्य जप्त्वा तु परं हर्षमवाप्तवान्। त्रिराचम्य शुचिर्भूत्वा धनुरादाय वीर्यवान् ॥ 105.29 ॥

ādityaṃ prekṣya japtvā tu paraṃ harṣamavāptavān| trirācamya śucirbhūtvā dhanurādāya vīryavān || 105.29 ||

Gazing upon the sun and reciting the hymn, that valiant one attained supreme joy; sipping water thrice and becoming pure, he took up his bow.

Shloka 30 (yuddha.105.30)

रावणं प्रेक्ष्य हृष्टात्मा युद्धार्थं समुपागमत्। सर्वयत्नेन महता वधे तस्य धृतोऽभवत् ॥ 105.30 ॥

rāvaṇaṃ prekṣya hṛṣṭātmā yuddhārthaṃ samupāgamat| sarvayatnena mahatā vadhe tasya dhṛto'bhavat || 105.30 ||

Beholding Ravana, his mind now elated, he advanced for battle, resolved with all his might upon that demon's destruction.

Shloka 31 (yuddha.105.31)

अथ रविरवदन्निरीक्ष्य रामं। मुदितमनाः परमं प्रहृष्यमाणः। निशिचरपतिसंक्षयं विदित्वा। सुरगणमध्यगतो वचस्त्वरेति ॥ 105.31 ॥

atha raviravadannirīkṣya rāmaṃ| muditamanāḥ paramaṃ prahṛṣyamāṇaḥ| niśicarapatisaṃkṣayaṃ viditvā| suragaṇamadhyagato vacastvareti || 105.31 ||

Then the sun, beholding Rama, his heart glad and rejoicing greatly, and knowing that the destruction of the lord of the night-wanderers was now at hand, standing amid the assembly of the gods, spoke this one word: "Hasten!"
