किसी भी भाषा में माँ के लिए कोई शब्द नहीं जो इससे अधिक भावपूर्ण हो। हिन्दी में माँ, संस्कृत में मातृ। शिशु की पहली आवाज़ परम्परा में इसी नाम का बीज-अक्षर मानी जाती है। जब भी रात को बच्चा रोए और माँ-बाप जवाब दें - मातृ का वह प्राचीन सम्बन्ध पूरा होता है। यहाँ देवी का आह्वान नहीं किया जाता, वे पहचानी जाती हैं।
