Aditya Hridayam

tato yuddhapariśrāntaṃ samare cintayā sthitam | rāvaṇaṃ cāgrato dṛṣṭvā yuddhāya samupasthitam ||1||

युद्ध से थके हुए राम रणभूमि में चिंतामग्न खड़े थे, जब उन्होंने रावण को पुनः युद्ध के लिए सामने आते देखा।

Rama stood on the battlefield, weary from fighting and lost in thought, as he saw Ravana approaching once more, ready for combat.

daivataiśca samāgamya draṣṭumabhyāgato raṇam | upāgamyābravīd rāmam agastyo bhagavān ṛṣiḥ ||2||

देवताओं के साथ युद्ध देखने आए महर्षि अगस्त्य राम के पास आकर उनसे बोले।

The sage Agastya, who had come with the gods to witness the battle, approached Rama and spoke to him.

rāma rāma mahābāho śṛṇu guhyaṃ sanātanam | yena sarvān arīn vatsa samare vijayiṣyasi ||3||

हे महाबाहु राम, इस सनातन रहस्य को सुनो, जिससे तुम युद्ध में समस्त शत्रुओं पर विजय प्राप्त करोगे।

O mighty-armed Rama, listen to this eternal secret by which you shall conquer all your enemies in battle.

ādityahṛdayaṃ puṇyaṃ sarvaśatruvināśanam | jayāvahaṃ japennityam akṣayaṃ paramaṃ śivam ||4||

यह पवित्र आदित्यहृदयम् समस्त शत्रुओं का नाश करने वाला, विजय दिलाने वाला तथा नित्य जप करने पर अक्षय एवं परम कल्याणकारी है।

This sacred Aditya Hridayam destroys all enemies, brings victory, and is imperishable and supremely auspicious when recited daily.

sarvamaṅgalamāṅgalyaṃ sarvapāpapraṇāśanam | cintāśokapraśamanaṃ āyurvardhanam uttamam ||5||

यह स्तोत्र समस्त मंगलों में परम मंगल है, सब पापों का नाशक है, चिंता और शोक को शांत करता है तथा उत्तम आयु प्रदान करता है।

This hymn is the most auspicious of all auspicious things, destroys every sin, calms anxiety and grief, and grants a long and excellent life.

raśmimantaṃ samudyantaṃ devāsuranamaskṛtam | pūjayasva vivasvantaṃ bhāskaraṃ bhuvaneśvaram ||6||

उदीयमान, किरणों से युक्त, देवों और असुरों द्वारा वंदित विवस्वान, भास्कर, भुवनेश्वर सूर्य की पूजा करो।

Worship the radiant, rising Sun, honored by gods and demons alike -- Vivasvan, Bhaskara, the Lord of all the worlds.

sarvadevātmako hyeṣa tejasvī raśmibhāvanaḥ | eṣa devāsuragaṇāḻ lokān pāti gabhastibhiḥ ||7||

वे समस्त देवताओं के आत्मस्वरूप, तेजस्वी और प्रकाश के स्रोत हैं; अपनी किरणों से वे देव और असुर दोनों के लोकों की रक्षा करते हैं।

He is the very self of all the gods, radiant and the source of light; with his rays he protects the worlds of gods and demons alike.

eṣa brahmā ca viṣṇuśca śivaḥ skandaḥ prajāpatiḥ | mahendro dhanadaḥ kālo yamaḥ somo hyapāṃ patiḥ ||8||

वे ब्रह्मा, विष्णु, शिव, स्कंद और प्रजापति हैं; वे महेंद्र, धनद (कुबेर), काल, यम, सोम और वरुण भी हैं।

He is Brahma, Vishnu, Shiva, Skanda and Prajapati; he is Mahendra, Kubera, Kala, Yama, Soma and the lord of the waters.

pitaro vasavaḥ sādhyā hyaśvinau maruto manuḥ | vāyurvahniḥ prajāprāṇa ṛtukartā prabhākaraḥ ||9||

वे पितर, वसु, साध्य, अश्विनीकुमार, मरुत और मनु हैं; वे वायु, अग्नि, प्राणियों के प्राण, ऋतुओं के कर्ता और प्रभाकर हैं।

He is the ancestors, the Vasus, the Sadhyas, the twin Ashvins, the Maruts and Manu; he is Vayu, Agni, the breath of creatures, the maker of the seasons and the source of light.

ādityaḥ savitā sūryaḥ khagaḥ pūṣā gabhastimān | suvarṇasadṛśo bhānur hiraṇyaretā divākaraḥ ||10||

वे आदित्य, सविता, सूर्य, खग, पूषा, गभस्तिमान, स्वर्ण के समान भानु, हिरण्यरेता और दिवाकर हैं।

He is Aditya, Savita, Surya, the sky-goer, Pusha, the possessor of rays, golden in hue, born of gold, the maker of the day.

haridaśvaḥ sahasrārciḥ saptasaptirmarīcimān | timironmathanaḥ śambhustvaṣṭā mārtāṇḍa aṃśumān ||11||

वे हरिदश्व, सहस्रकिरण, सप्तसप्ति और मरीचिमान हैं; वे अंधकार का नाश करने वाले, कल्याणकारी और जीवनदाता मार्तण्ड हैं।

He has tawny horses, a thousand rays, and seven steeds; he dispels darkness, brings happiness, and is the infuser of life, Martanda.

hiraṇyagarbhaḥ śiśirastapano bhāskaro raviḥ | agnigarbho'diteḥ putraḥ śaṅkhaḥ śiśiranāśanaḥ ||12||

वे हिरण्यगर्भ, शिशिर, तपन, भास्कर और रवि हैं; वे अग्निगर्भ, अदिति के पुत्र तथा शीत का नाश करने वाले हैं।

He is Hiranyagarbha, the cool one, the scorcher, Bhaskara, Ravi; born of fire, son of Aditi, the conch-hued destroyer of cold.

vyomanāthastamobhedī ṛgyajuḥsāmapāragaḥ | ghanavṛṣṭirapāṃ mitro vindhyavīthī plavaṅgamaḥ ||13||

वे आकाश के स्वामी, अंधकार के भेदक, ऋग्-यजुः-साम वेदों के पारगामी, जल के मित्र और सघन वर्षा करने वाले तथा विंध्य पथ को पार करने वाले हैं।

He is the lord of the sky, the piercer of darkness, master of the Rig, Yajur and Sama Vedas, the friend of the waters who brings heavy rain, who crosses the Vindhya path.

ātapī maṇḍalī mṛtyuḥ piṅgalaḥ sarvatāpanaḥ | kavirviśvo mahātejāḥ raktaḥ sarvabhavodbhavaḥ ||14||

वे तापदाता, मंडलाकार, मृत्युस्वरूप, पिंगल वर्ण, कवि, विश्वरूप, महातेजस्वी और समस्त सृष्टि के उद्भवस्थान हैं।

He gives heat, has a circular form, brings death to some, is reddish-golden, the poet, the universal one of great splendor, the source from which all existence arises.

nakṣatragrahatārāṇām adhipo viśvabhāvanaḥ | tejasāmapi tejasvī dvādaśātman namo'stu te ||15||

वे नक्षत्र, ग्रह और तारों के अधिपति, विश्व के उत्पत्तिकर्ता तथा तेजस्वियों में भी तेजस्वी हैं, हे द्वादशात्मन्, आपको नमस्कार है।

He is the lord of the stars, planets and constellations, the source of the universe, the most radiant among the radiant -- salutations to you, the twelve-fold Self.

namaḥ pūrvāya giraye paścimāyādraye namaḥ | jyotirgaṇānāṃ pataye dinādhipataye namaḥ ||16||

पूर्वी पर्वत को नमस्कार, पश्चिमी पर्वत को नमस्कार; नक्षत्रगणों के स्वामी और दिन के अधिपति को नमस्कार है।

Salutations to the eastern mountain, salutations to the western mountain; salutations to the lord of the constellations, the ruler of the day.

jayāya jayabhadrāya haryaśvāya namo namaḥ | namo namaḥ sahasrāṃśo ādityāya namo namaḥ ||17||

विजयी, शुभ विजय देने वाले, हरिदश्व और सहस्ररश्मि आदित्य को बार-बार नमस्कार है।

Salutations to the victorious, the bringer of auspicious victory, the one with tawny steeds, the thousand-rayed Aditya -- salutations again and again.

nama ugrāya vīrāya sāraṅgāya namo namaḥ | namaḥ padmaprabodhāya mārtāṇḍāya namo namaḥ ||18||

उग्र, वीर और तीव्रगामी को नमस्कार; कमल को विकसित करने वाले मार्तण्ड को नमस्कार है।

Salutations to the fierce one, the hero, the swift-moving one; salutations to the awakener of the lotus, Martanda.

brahmeśānācyuteśāya sūryāyādityavarcase | bhāsvate sarvabhakṣāya raudrāya vapuṣe namaḥ ||19||

ब्रह्मा, ईशान और अच्युत के समन्वित स्वरूप, आदित्य-तेज से युक्त सूर्य, प्रकाशमान और रौद्र स्वरूप को नमस्कार है।

Salutations to the one who is Brahma, Ishana and Achyuta combined, to Surya of solar splendor, the radiant devourer of all, whose form is fierce like Rudra.

tamoghnāya himaghnāya śatrughnāyāmitātmane | kṛtaghnaghnāya devāya jyotiṣāṃ pataye namaḥ ||20||

अंधकार, शीत और शत्रु के नाशक, अपरिमित आत्मा को नमस्कार; कृतघ्नता के नाशक, ज्योतियों के स्वामी को नमस्कार है।

Salutations to the destroyer of darkness, cold and enemies, the boundless self; salutations to the destroyer of ingratitude, the lord of all luminaries.

taptacāmīkarābhāya vahnaye viśvakarmaṇe | namastamo'bhinighnāya rucaye lokasākṣiṇe ||21||

तपे हुए स्वर्ण के समान कांतिमान, अग्निस्वरूप, विश्वकर्मा को नमस्कार; अंधकार के नाशक, समस्त लोकों के साक्षी प्रकाश को नमस्कार है।

Salutations to the one shining like molten gold, the fire, the architect of the universe; salutations to the destroyer of darkness, the light that witnesses all worlds.

nāśayatyeṣa vai bhūtaṃ tadeva sṛjati prabhuḥ | pāyatyeṣa tapatyeṣa varṣatyeṣa gabhastibhiḥ ||22||

वे ही प्राणियों का नाश करते हैं और वे ही पुनः उन्हें उत्पन्न करते हैं; अपनी किरणों से वे जल खींचते हैं, तपाते हैं और वर्षा के रूप में बरसाते हैं।

He alone destroys beings and he alone creates them again; with his rays he draws up water, heats it, and sends it down as rain.

eṣa supteṣu jāgarti bhūteṣu pariniṣṭhitaḥ | eṣa evāgnihotraṃ ca phalaṃ caivāgnihotriṇām ||23||

वे सोए हुए प्राणियों में भी जागृत रहते हैं तथा उनके भीतर स्थित हैं; वे स्वयं अग्निहोत्र और अग्निहोत्रियों का फल भी हैं।

He stays awake even when all beings are asleep, established within them; he is the sacred fire ritual itself and the fruit gained by those who perform it.

vedāśca kratavaścaiva kratūnāṃ phalameva ca | yāni kṛtyāni lokeṣu sarva eṣa raviḥ prabhuḥ ||24||

वे वेद, यज्ञ और यज्ञों के फल हैं; लोक में जो भी कर्म किए जाते हैं, उन सबके स्वामी सूर्य ही हैं।

He is the Vedas, the sacrifices, and the fruit of the sacrifices; whatever actions are performed in the worlds, the Sun alone is the lord of them all.

enam āpatsu kṛcchreṣu kāntāreṣu bhayeṣu ca | kīrtayan puruṣaḥ kaścin nāvasīdati rāghava ||25||

हे राघव, जो कोई भी विपत्ति, कठिनाई, वन अथवा भय के समय इस स्तोत्र का पाठ करता है, वह कभी विचलित नहीं होता।

O Raghava, whoever recites this hymn in times of calamity, hardship, in the wilderness, or in fear, does not lose courage.

pūjayasvainam ekāgro devadevaṃ jagatpatim | etat triguṇitaṃ japtvā yuddheṣu vijayiṣyasi ||26||

एकाग्रचित्त होकर देवाधिदेव, जगत्पति की पूजा करो; इस स्तोत्र को तीन बार जपकर तुम युद्ध में विजयी होगे।

Worship him with single-pointed devotion, the god of gods, the lord of the universe; recite this hymn three times and you shall win in battle.

asmin kṣaṇe mahābāho rāvaṇaṃ tvaṃ vadhiṣyasi | evamuktvā tadāgastyo jagāma ca yathāgatam ||27||

हे महाबाहु, इसी क्षण तुम रावण का वध करोगे। ऐसा कहकर अगस्त्य जैसे आए थे वैसे ही चले गए।

O mighty-armed one, this very moment you shall slay Ravana. Having said this, Agastya departed as he had come.

etacchrutvā mahātejā naṣṭaśoko'bhavat tadā | dhārayāmāsa suprīto rāghavaḥ prayatātmavān ||28||

यह सुनकर महातेजस्वी राघव शोकरहित हो गए; संयमी राघव ने प्रसन्नतापूर्वक धैर्य धारण किया।

Hearing this, the greatly radiant Raghava became free from grief; the self-controlled one took heart and was greatly pleased.

ādityaṃ prekṣya japtvā tu paraṃ harṣam avāptavān | trirācamya śucirbhūtvā dhanurādāya vīryavān ||29||

आदित्य को देखकर और स्तोत्र का जप करके उन्हें परम आनंद प्राप्त हुआ; तीन बार आचमन कर शुद्ध होकर वीर्यवान राम ने धनुष उठाया।

Gazing at Aditya and reciting the hymn, he obtained supreme joy; sipping water thrice for purity, the valiant one took up his bow.

rāvaṇaṃ prekṣya hṛṣṭātmā yuddhāya samupāgamat | sarva yatnena mahatā vadhe tasya dhṛto'bhavat ||30||

रावण को देखकर हर्षित हृदय वाले राम युद्ध के लिए आगे बढ़े, पूर्ण प्रयास से उसके वध का संकल्प लिए हुए।

Seeing Ravana, the joyful-hearted Rama advanced to battle, resolved with all his effort to accomplish his slaying.

atha ravir avadan nirīkṣya rāmaṃ muditamanāḥ paramaṃ prahṛṣyamāṇaḥ | niśicarapatisaṅkṣayaṃ viditvā suragaṇamadhyagato vacas tvareti ||31||

तब सूर्य ने राम को देखकर प्रसन्नचित्त होकर कहा; निशाचरपति के विनाश को निकट जानकर देवताओं के मध्य से उन्होंने 'शीघ्रता करो' कहा।

Then the Sun, seeing Rama, spoke with a delighted mind, greatly pleased; knowing the destruction of the lord of night-wanderers was near, from amid the assembly of gods he called out, 'Hurry!'
