ब्रह्मविद्या के गुरु, जिनका विशिष्ट शिक्षण कार्य उस मुक्तिदायक ज्ञान का संचरण है जो आत्मा की वास्तविक प्रकृति की सभी अज्ञानता को विलीन करता है

ब्रह्मविद्यागुरव दत्तात्रेय को ब्रह्मविद्या के गुरु नाम देता है। मुण्डक उपनिषद् की शिक्षण में दो प्रकार का ज्ञान है: निम्न (अपरा) और उच्च (परा) ब्रह्मविद्या। भारत की परम्परा में केवल ब्रह्मनिष्ठ ही ब्रह्मविद्या संचारित कर सकता है।
