भगवती - जो सभी दैवीय गुणों से सम्पन्न हैं, जो छः परम विशेषताओं - समृद्धि, धर्म, यश, सौन्दर्य, ज्ञान और वैराग्य - को उनकी परम पूर्णता में समेटती हैं

देवी भागवत पुराण - इस सहस्रनाम का प्राथमिक स्रोत ग्रन्थ - अपना नाम भगवती से लेता है। यह ग्रन्थ बारह पुस्तकों में अठारह हजार श्लोकों तक फैला है। 200वें नाम पर, जैसे-जैसे हम सहस्रनाम के पाँचवें भाग से गुज़रते हैं, भगवती देवी को उस ग्रन्थ के स्रोत के रूप में नाम देती है जिसका हम पाठ कर रहे हैं: वे इसके हर नाम का विषय और वस्तु दोनों हैं।
