वरदान देने वाली - जिनका उठा हुआ वरद हस्त इस आश्वासन का प्रतीक है कि सच्ची प्रार्थना सुनी और पूरी जाती है

भारत के मन्दिरों में देवी की मूर्ति में एक हाथ हमेशा वरद-मुद्रा में होता है - हथेली बाहर, उंगलियाँ नीचे, देने का सार्वभौमिक संकेत। जो भक्त उस मूर्ति के सामने खड़े होकर अपनी गहरी इच्छा मन में रखते हैं - वे अंधविश्वासी नहीं, वे यह मान रहे हैं कि यह ब्रह्माण्ड देना चाहता है। 'वरदा' नाम माँगने को पवित्र बनाता है।
