जगतीशः

Lord of the earth, the sovereign of the material world and of all earthly life, in whom every creature that walks, crawls, and grows upon the earth finds its ultimate sustainer

पृथ्वी के स्वामी, भौतिक जगत और समस्त पार्थिव जीवन के अधीश्वर, जिनमें पृथ्वी पर चलने, रेंगने और उगने वाला प्रत्येक प्राणी अपना परम पालक पाता है

जगतीश (पृथ्वी के स्वामी) शिव को एक विशेष रूप से सांसारिक संप्रभुता देता है जो उनके ब्रह्माण्डीय आयामों की पूरक है। पृथ्वी (भूमि) को पवित्र मानने के भारत के संबंध को हजारों प्रथाओं में व्यक्त किया जाता है: सुबह पाँव रखने से पहले भूमि को छूने की प्रथा, निर्माण शुरू करने से पहले भूमि पूजा, पोंगल और मकर संक्रांति के कटाई उत्सव। किसान जुताई से पहले, खनिक खुदाई से पहले जगतीश को आह्वान करते हैं।
