The Births of Dhritarashtra, Pandu and Vidura
Vyasa comes at midnight to Ambika (Kausalya), who shuts her eyes in fear of his appearance, and he foretells that her mighty son will be born blind: Dhritarashtra. Satyavati asks for a second king, and Ambalika turns pale at the sight of the sage, so her son is born pale and is named Pandu, father of the five Pandavas. When Ambika is sent to the sage once more, she puts a maidservant in her place, who serves him gladly and bears Vidura, the god Dharma born on earth through the curse of Mandavya. Vyasa tells his mother of the deception and departs.
