The Funeral of Pandu and Madri

Dhritarashtra orders Vidura to give Pandu and Madri a royal funeral and to distribute gifts in their name. Escorted by priests carrying the sacred fires, and followed by the weeping Pandavas, the Kurus and thousands of citizens, the bodies are borne on a bier to the bank of the Ganga, anointed, clothed and cremated with fragrant woods. Kausalya faints at the sight, the whole people mourn, the family offers water to the dead, and the city remains joyless with the Pandavas for twelve nights.
