Vidura's Digger and the Secret Tunnel

A skilled digger, a friend sent secretly by Vidura, comes to the Pandavas, proves his good faith by recalling the words Vidura spoke to Yudhishthira in a foreign tongue, and warns that Purochana will set fire to the door of their house on the fourteenth night of the dark fortnight. Yudhishthira accepts him as Vidura's man and asks to be rescued. On the pretext of clearing the moat, the digger cuts a great tunnel with a hidden, door-fitted opening in the middle of the house. The Pandavas sleep there armed by night and hunt by day, feigning trust and contentment to deceive Purochana, and no one in the town but the digger knows.
