Yayati Asks His Sons for Their Youth
Now old, Yayati returns to his city and asks each of his sons in turn to take his old age for a thousand years and lend him their youth. Yadu, Turvasu, Druhyu and Anu refuse, and he curses each: Yadu's line will have no share in kingship, Turvasu will rule over barbarians, Druhyu's line will be kingless "Bhojas" in a land without horses or chariots, and Anu's children will die young. The youngest, Puru, gladly accepts; Yayati blesses him and, calling Shukra to mind, transfers his old age to Puru.
