Vyasa Teaches Shuka the Greatness of Cows
Yudhishthira asks for the purest and greatest of vows, and Bhishma answers with an old conversation between Vyasa and his son Shuka. Shuka asks which gift is greatest and what the sacrifice rests upon. Vyasa replies with a praise of cows, the mothers of all beings and the dwelling of all the gods, whose milk, curds and ghee sustain the sacrifice, and teaches the Gomati recitation, which frees from sin and brings protection, prosperity and victory.
