Nimi's Shraddha and Atri's Rules
Asked by Yudhishthira how the shraddha began, Bhishma tells of Nimi, grandson of Atri's line, who in grief for his dead son made the first offering of rice-balls and then feared he had broken dharma. Atri appears, assures him that Brahma had ordained the rite, and lays down its procedure, names the Vishvedevas, and lists the foods, persons and sights to be avoided.
