Anushasana Parva · Adhyaya 14

Indra, Agni, Surya and Shachi Speak Their Truths

Bhishma turns to another old tale, the words of Indra, Agni, the Sun and Shachi. Each in turn makes a statement of truth, ending with the same refrain: by this true word, let the last quarter of the pot be filled. Indra sees Brahmins in his realm free of desire and anger; Agni does not eat where Brahmins do not eat; the Sun does not scorch cows and Brahmins with his full strength; and Shachi never slights Indra in deed, thought or word.
