The Chandala and the Kshatriya: The Sin of Taking a Brahmin's Property

Yudhishthira asks where men go who seize Brahmins' property. Bhishma answers that it is the worst of sins, and tells of a Chandala who remembers his former life. A Brahmin student, he had eaten alms spoiled by the dust of a Brahmin's cows, and so was reborn a Chandala; he describes the hells awaiting those who sell Soma or live on a Brahmin's property. A Kshatriya tells him to give up his life in battle for a Brahmin's sake, and he is freed.
