Brihaspati on Atonement and the Gift of Food
Yudhishthira asks how those who have done sinful deeds may reach a good destination. Brihaspati answers that repentance, an open confession before brahmins who speak of dharma, and gifts to brahmins free a man from his sins. He names food as the best of gifts and lists the other gifts and rites that cleanse sin, then shows how each of the three other orders, kshatriya, vaishya and shudra, can win release by giving food honestly earned. He ends with the rewards of feeding learned brahmins.
