Maheshvara Teaches Uma the Discipline of Yoga
Maheshvara tells Uma that, having explained the way of Sankhya, he will now set out the discipline of Yoga: the preparation by vows and restraint, the seat and posture, the withdrawal of the senses into the mind, and the places and workings of the five vital breaths. He names the ten faults that obstruct a yogi and the eight powers he gains, warns against excess in food and sleep, and ends with union with the gods, and above all with himself or Vishnu, as the goal.
