Bhishma's Departure and Funeral

Bhishma falls silent, restrains his breath through yoga, and as he does so the arrows leave his body; his spirit bursts through the crown of his head and rises to heaven to the sound of divine drums. The Pandavas, Vidura, Dhritarashtra and Yuyutsu build the pyre and perform the funeral rites, and the Kurus offer water in the Ganga. Bhagirathi rises in grief for her son, and Krishna and Vyasa console her, after which she returns to her waters and the kings turn back.
