Garuda Frees His Mother and Returns the Amrita to Indra
Indra turns back from the thunderbolt contest, and Garuda brings the amrita to Kadru, who declares Vinata free. Garuda then takes the amrita back to Indra, who with the gods and sages rejoices and, smiling, foretells that Hrishikesha will be born in the house of Shura's son, with Garuda to share in it. Bhishma ends the story of Suparna.

Verse 1 (13.29.1)
ततो वज्रं सहस्राक्षो दृष्ट्वा सक्तं वरायुधम् । ऋषींश्च दृष्ट्वा सहसा सुपर्णमिदमब्रवीत् ॥
tato vajraṃ sahasrākṣo dṛṣṭvā saktaṃ varāyudham | ṛṣīṃśca dṛṣṭvā sahasā suparṇamidamabravīt
Then the thousand-eyed god, seeing his best weapon stuck fast, and seeing the sages, suddenly spoke these words to Suparna.
Note on the text: Removed the speaker heading "`भीष्म उवाच" (with a stray backtick) that had slipped into the verse text; it is made the speaker. Corrected व्रज्रं → वज्रं (misprint in Wikisource; CE vajraṃ). Not in the critical edition's constituted text: lines of the CE's inline Appendix I passage (App. I No. 1A, 13,008.028d@001A_0414-0415); vulgate-only otherwise.

na te suparṇa paśyāmi prabhāvaṃ tena yodhaye | ityukte na mayā rakṣā śakyā kartumato'nyathā | idaṃ vajraṃ mayā sārdhaṃ nivṛttaṃ hi yathāgatam
Suparna, I do not see your power, and so I do battle with you. When this has been said, I cannot offer any protection otherwise. This thunderbolt, together with me, has turned back just as it came.
Note on the text: Restored from the critical edition (App. I No. 1A, 13,008.028d@001A_0416-0418): Wikisource has visibly lost this verse (its labels run 13-29-1 then 13-29-3b, with 2a, 2b and 3a missing). Indra's words after the narrator's "सुपर्णमिदमब्रवीत्"; no printed heading, speaker given from the sense. Three lines, kept as in the CE. Not in the constituted text (vulgate/Appendix I only). The sense of the first two lines is obscure in the CE too.

When the thousand-eyed god had turned back, Garuda too took the amrita and went quickly to Kadru, O Bharata.
Note on the text: First line restored from the critical edition (App. I No. 1A, 13,008.028d@001A_0419): Wikisource has only the label 13-29-3b (line b). Corrected भारतः → भारत (misprint in Wikisource; stray visarga on the vocative; CE bhārata). Line 2 = App. I No. 1A, 13,008.028d@001A_0420; not in the constituted text (Appendix I).

Not in the critical edition's constituted text: App. I No. 1A, 13,008.028d@001A_0421-0422 (the CE's heading "कद्रूः" falls before the second line there, the page's heading "गरुड उवाच" covers both lines; the page is followed).

Welcome, and well brought, son of Vinata, is this amrita. Today your mother is no slave, my son; the fortunate one is free to follow her own will.
Note on the text: The page ends this couplet with a single danda (verse-end mark ।। falls after the next line, 13-29-6a, which is not Kadru's speech); the couplet is closed here and the narrator's line given its own verse. Note on the text: Single line: the page's verse-end mark (।।) falls after this line (13-29-6a), so the input's couplet 6a+6b was re-divided at the page's own marks; the input carried the speaker "कद्रू" over (narration; given to Bhishma). upanīya yathānyāyaṃ vihago balināṃvaraḥ | smṛtvā nikṛtyā vijayaṃ mātuḥ sampratipadya ca
Having duly brought it, the bird, best of the strong, remembering his mother's defeat by trickery, and having taken the matter to heart,
Note on the text: Lines re-divided at the page's own verse-end marks (।।): input row 6 (6a+6b) and row 7 (7a+7b) are re-cut as 6b+7a and 7b+8a, etc.; wording unchanged. Speaker "कद्रू" in the input was a carry-over; narration is Bhishma's. The sentence runs on into the next verse. Not in the constituted text: App. I No. 1A, 13,008.028d@001A_0426-0427; line 2 reads सम्प्रतिपद्य च where the CE has saṃpratipadyata (recension variant, kept).
Verse 8 (13.29.8)
वधं च भुजगेन्द्राणां ये वालास्तस्य वाजिनः । बभूवुरसितप्रख्या निकृत्या वै जितं त्वया ॥
vadhaṃ ca bhujagendrāṇāṃ ye vālāstasya vājinaḥ | babhūvurasitaprakhyā nikṛtyā vai jitaṃ tvayā
and the slaughter of the lords of serpents — those who, as the hairs of that horse, had made it look black: "By trickery you have won."
Note on the text: Lines re-divided at the page's verse-end marks (see verse 7); wording unchanged; speaker corrected from "कद्रू" (carry-over) to Bhishma. Not in the constituted text: App. I No. 1A, 13,008.028d@001A_0428-0429. The page's gloss (13-29-1) takes "जितं त्वया" with the next verse, "तामुवाच": Garuda said it to Kadru.
Verse 9 (13.29.9)
तामुवाच ततो न्याय्यं विहगो बलिनांवरः । उज्जहारामृतं तूर्णमुत्पपात च रंहसा ॥
tāmuvāca tato nyāyyaṃ vihago balināṃvaraḥ | ujjahārāmṛtaṃ tūrṇamutpapāta ca raṃhasā
Then the bird, best of the strong, spoke to her what was just; he took up the amrita and flew up swiftly with great speed.
Note on the text: Lines re-divided at the page's verse-end marks (see verse 7). Corrected उञ्जहारामृतं → उज्जहारामृतं (misprint in Wikisource; wrong nasal; CE ujjahārāmṛtaṃ). Speaker corrected from "कद्रू" to Bhishma. Not in the constituted text: App. I No. 1A, 13,008.028d@001A_0430-0431.

As the unconquered one was going off, quickly taking that amrita, Kadru, mother of the serpents, said this to Suparna:
Note on the text: Line 1 = the page's second line of row 9 (13-29-9b), re-divided at the verse-end marks (see verse 7). Line 2 restored from the critical edition (App. I No. 1A, 13,008.028d@001A_0433): Wikisource lacks it though its labels show no gap, and without it the participle clause has no main verb and Kadru's speech has no introduction.
