The Birth of Parashurama and Vishvamitra Foretold

Chyavana tells Kushika why he came: the Bhrigus will be slain by the kshatriyas, from whom a descendant, Aurva, will arise, and Aurva's line will carry the science of archery to Jamadagni. Through the marriage of Richika to Gadhi's daughter, a brahmin with a warrior's nature and a kshatriya with a brahmin's nature, Vishvamitra, will be born, and in the third generation Kushika's line will become brahmins. Kushika accepts, asks that his family become brahmanical and devoted to dharma, and Chyavana departs on pilgrimage; Bhishma closes the account.
