Arvavasu Brings the Dead Back to Life
King Brihaddyumna engages Raibhya's sons Arvavasu and Paravasu for a long sacrificial session. Paravasu, slipping home at night, mistakes his father Raibhya, wrapped in a black antelope skin, for a deer and kills him; he persuades Arvavasu to perform the expiation on his behalf, then has him driven from the sacrifice as a brahmin-slayer. Arvavasu worships the Sun in the forest, and the gods, pleased, expel Paravasu and grant Arvavasu's boons: Raibhya, Bharadvaja and Yavakrita rise again. The gods tell Yavakrita that learning won without a teacher could not equal Raibhya's, and Lomasha commends Yavakrita's hermitage to Yudhishthira.
