Bhima Cannot Lift Hanuman's Tail
Bhima announces himself and demands the path. Hanuman, pleading old age, tells him to step over him, but Bhima refuses out of reverence for the Supreme Self that dwells in every body, and boasts of his brother Hanuman who leapt the ocean. When Bhima tries to push the tail aside he cannot even stir it, and, humbled, he asks the monkey who he really is. Hanuman reveals himself as the son of the Wind and begins the story of Sugriva and of Rama, whose wife Ravana carried off after Maricha, in the form of a golden deer, had lured Rama away.
