Arjuna Tells of His Journey to Indra's Heaven

Arjuna continues his account to Yudhishthira. The brahmin he had met foretells that he will see Indra with the world-guardians; the gods then appear on the snowy mountain and Yama, Varuna, Kubera and Indra give him weapons. Indra tests his purpose, accepts his promise not to use divine weapons against men except to counter weapons, and sends Matali's chariot, in which Arjuna stands so steady that Matali marvels. Arjuna describes Amaravati, the honour Indra showed him, his study of weapons and of music with Chitrasena, and how he kept his mind on the weapons amid heaven's pleasures.
