Indra's Fee: Arjuna Sets Out Against the Nivatakavachas
Continuing his account to Yudhishthira, Arjuna tells how, once he had mastered the celestial weapons, Indra declared him unequalled and asked, as his teacher's fee, that he destroy the Nivatakavachas, three crores of danavas living in a fortress in the depths of the ocean. Indra gave him his own chariot driven by Matali, a diadem, armour and an unaging bowstring for the Gandiva. The gods gathered to bless him, recalling the victories Indra had won with that chariot, and gave him the conch Devadatta, and Arjuna set out for the danavas' city.
