Karna's Vow to Slay Arjuna

Duryodhana re-enters Hastinapura to praise; some say his sacrifice is not worth a sixteenth of Yudhishthira's, but his friends compare it with those of Yayati, Nahusha, Mandhatri and Bharata. Karna promises to honour him again once the Pandavas are slain and the Rajasuya performed, and vows not to have his feet washed, eat meat or drink wine until he has killed Arjuna, and never to refuse a petitioner. Learning of the vow through spies, Yudhishthira is deeply troubled and resolves to leave the Dvaita forest, while Duryodhana rules the earth and sacrifices lavishly with Karna and Shakuni.
