The Pandavas Return and Give Chase

Returning from the hunt, Yudhishthira reads evil omens in the cries of beasts and birds and in a jackal howling on their left, and the brothers hurry back. At the hermitage they find Draupadi's maid weeping; she tells the charioteer Indrasena that Jayadratha has carried Draupadi off and urges the Pandavas to give chase before she is defiled. Yudhishthira silences her harsh words, and the brothers follow the tracks, sight the army with Dhaumya among its foot-soldiers, and fall on it with a roar on seeing Draupadi in Jayadratha's chariot.

Note on the text: Restored from the critical edition (3.253.11a–d and the apparatus line 3.253.11b*1204, line 1): Wikisource prints only the last line of this verse, numbered 11f, so five lines are lost. The surviving line is *1204 line 2 of the apparatus (which reads kva cit for कच्चित्); the restored lines are CE 3.253.11ab and 11cd followed by *1204 line 1, which precedes the surviving line there.
