Surabhi's Grief for Her Son
Dhritarashtra admits that he never approved of the dicing but cannot abandon Duryodhana out of love for his son. Vyasa agrees that nothing is dearer than a son, and tells how Surabhi, mother of cows, wept before Indra over one weak ox struggling under the plough, her pity going most to the son in distress. He draws the lesson: Dhritarashtra should feel most for the suffering Pandavas, and if he wants the Kauravas to live, Duryodhana must make peace with them.
