Brihaspati Promises Indra Not to Officiate for Marutta

Yudhishthira asks how Marutta came by his gold and where it lies now. Vyasa begins with the rivalry of the gods and asuras and of Angiras's sons Brihaspati and Samvarta, whom Brihaspati harassed until he left his goods and wandered naked in the forest. Indra, who had taken Brihaspati as his priest, grew jealous of the matchless King Marutta and demanded that Brihaspati never officiate for him; Brihaspati swore he would never serve a mortal at sacrifice, and Indra went home content.
