Babhruvahana Comes; Vyasa Calls for the Sacrifice; the Rites Begin

Arjuna's son Babhruvahana arrives with his two mothers, Chitrangada and Ulupi, and is received with honour by Kunti, Dhritarashtra, the Pandavas and Krishna. On the third day Vyasa tells Yudhishthira that the time has come, bids him triple the sacrificial fees, and promises that three horse sacrifices will wash away the guilt of killing kinsmen. Yudhishthira is consecrated; the rites proceed flawlessly, Bhima feeds all comers, and the sacrificial ground, posts and fire-altar shine amid gods, sages, Gandharvas and Apsarases.
