Agastya's Sacrifice and the Rain

Janamejaya asks how the highest conclusion about all sacrifices is to be reached, and Vaishampayana tells of Agastya's twelve-year rite. When Indra sent no rain, Agastya declared that he would make good the sacrifice by thought, touch, effort and seed, or become Indra himself; the sages, astonished at his power, said they wished only the lawful, non-violent way. Indra then rained and the sacrifice was completed.
