The Four Ages and the Span of Life
Dhritarashtra asks about the span of life, the strength and the fortunes of people in Bharatavarsha, Haimavata and Harivarsha. Sanjaya names the four ages — Krita, Treta, Dvapara and Tishya — gives their life spans of four, three and two thousand years, and says that in the Tishya there is no fixed span at all. He describes the kind of people born in each age, from the strong and truthful sages of the Krita to the wrathful and greedy men of the Tishya, and adds that Haimavata and Harivarsha excel Bharatavarsha in virtue.
