Duryodhana Goes to Bhishma by Night
After the eighth day's fighting Duryodhana takes counsel with Shakuni, Duhshasana and Karna, complaining that the elders do not check the Pandavas while Bhima kills his brothers. Karna urges him to have Bhishma lay down his arms, swearing that he alone will then destroy the Pandavas and the Somakas. Duryodhana rides in state, lit by golden lamps and attended by his brothers and troops, to Bhishma's tent, and there with tears reminds the grandsire of his vow, accuses him of sparing the Pandavas, and asks him to let Karna fight in his place.
