Bhima Defeats Karna and Duhshala Is Slain

Dhritarashtra asks which heroes stood against the roaring Bhima. Sanjaya tells how Karna rushes at him; their duel shakes the armies. Bhima cuts Karna's bow and string, kills his charioteer and horses, and drives him to Vrishasena's chariot, then roars in triumph, and Yudhishthira rejoices as conches sound along the Pandava line. Bhima next breaks Karna's chariot, sword and shield; Duryodhana sends Duhshala with a chariot for Karna, and Bhima cuts off Duhshala's head, after which Karna and Bhima fight on and the armies fall into confusion.
