Bhima and Alayudha Fight

The Kauravas rejoice at the arrival of the rakshasa Alayudha, and Duryodhana sets him against Ghatotkacha. Alayudha leaves Ghatotkacha to challenge Bhima, and the rakshasa host and Bhima fight, while Krishna sends the Pandava warriors against Karna and the rakshasas. Alayudha breaks Bhima's bow and kills his horses and charioteer, and the two close in a mace-and-fist duel until Krishna urges Ghatotkacha to Bhima's rescue.

tamāgatamabhiprekṣya bhīmakarmāṇamāhave | harṣamāhārayāñcakruḥ kuravaḥ sarva eva te

When they saw him arrive, the doer of dreadful deeds in battle, all those Kurus were filled with joy.

Verse 2 (7.178.2)

Note on the text: Not in the main text of the critical edition: these two lines are star passage *1236 (7.152.4d*1236_01–02), inserted after 7.152.4. Stripped the stray backtick and quote mark that Wikisource prints around the lines. Wikisource's gloss reads माधवः as कृतवर्मा.
