Narada Tells Srinjaya of King Anga
Narada begins to console Srinjaya for the death of his son by recalling the great kings of old who also died. The first is Anga, the heroic scion of Puru: his horse sacrifice drew learned men from every land, and his fees included ten thousand golden-draped elephants, maidens, bulls, cows, jewels and mountains of food. If so meritorious a king died, Srinjaya should not grieve for a son who never sacrificed.

If even he died, Srinjaya — he who was more blessed than you in four ways and more meritorious than your son — then do not grieve for your son, who neither sacrificed nor gave fees. So Narada addressed Shvaitya.
Note on the text: Not in the critical edition's constituted text (found in the vulgate recension); the critical edition gives it only in its Appendix I No. 8 (the Shodasharajika, printed after 7.49.21), lines 0406–0408: line 1 is identical, line 2 is identical, line 3 differs. Corrected चतुर्भद्रतस्त्वया → चतुर्भद्रतरस्त्वया (misprint in Wikisource; the syllable र is dropped, the refrain reads caturbhadrataras tvayā in the critical edition and in every other adhyaya of this story).
