The Pandavas Set Out on the Great Departure
Hearing of the destruction of the Vrishnis and Krishna's departure, Yudhishthira resolves to leave the world. He crowns Parikshit at Hastinapura, makes Yuyutsu the guardian of the kingdom, and performs the funeral rites for Krishna and the Yadavas. Then he and his brothers, with Draupadi and a dog, put on bark garments and set out. On the shore of the eastern sea Agni demands the Gandiva, which Arjuna casts into the waters, and the Pandavas go on, circling the earth toward the north.
