Yudhishthira Refuses to Abandon the Dog

Indra comes in his chariot to take Yudhishthira to heaven in his own body, but Yudhishthira will not go without his brothers and Draupadi, and above all will not abandon the dog that has followed him. Indra urges him to give up the dog, saying heaven has no place for those who keep dogs; Yudhishthira answers that abandoning a devoted creature is as grave a sin as killing a brahmin. The dog is revealed as Dharma himself, who praises him; the gods raise him in the chariot, and Narada proclaims his glory. Yet in heaven Yudhishthira still asks to go where his brothers are.
