The Sages' Curse on Samba and the Iron Pestle

Janamejaya asks how the Vrishnis and Andhakas perished, and Vaishampayana begins the story. Young Yadavas led by Sarana present a disguised Samba to the sages Vishvamitra, Kanva and Narada and mock them; the sages curse him to bear an iron pestle that will destroy the whole clan, sparing only Rama and Janardana. Samba brings forth the pestle; the king has it ground to powder and cast into the sea, and a strict ban on liquor is proclaimed in the city.
