Maya Offers to Build the Assembly Hall
Asked by Janamejaya what Arjuna did after sparing Maya at the burning of the Khandava forest, Vaishampayana tells how the grateful Asura, the master builder of the Danavas, begs to do Arjuna a service. Arjuna will take no return for saving a life but, not wishing Maya's resolve to be in vain, sends him to Krishna, who asks him to build for Yudhishthira an assembly hall that no human could imitate. Maya is honoured by Yudhishthira and, on an auspicious day, after feeding brahmins, measures out a hall ten thousand kishkus in extent.
