Krishna Recounts Shishupala's Offences
Stung by Bhishma's words, Shishupala challenges Krishna to battle and marches out with the kings to wreck Yudhishthira's sacrifice, while Krishna mounts his Garuda-bannered chariot. Krishna tells the kings to stand aside and lists Shishupala's crimes against the Yadavas: the burning of Dvaraka, the theft of the sacrificial horse, the abduction of Babhru's wife and of Bhadra of Vaishali, and his pact with Jarasandha. He has pardoned a hundred offences for the sake of Shishupala's mother, but will not forgive his hostility to the sacrifice and the Pandavas. The kings revile Shishupala and flee; Shishupala mocks Krishna over Rukmini and rides out alone against him, like a moth to a flame.
