Varuna Is Made Lord of the Waters

Janamejaya asks how Varuna came to be consecrated, and Vaishampayana tells how the gods, in the Krita age, made him lord of all waters and rivers. Balarama then visits the Agni tirtha, where the gods once found Agni hidden in the shami tree after Bhrigu's curse, and the tirtha of Kubera, where the lord of wealth gained his treasures, his Pushpaka car and his rank as guardian of the world. From there he goes on to Badarapachana.
