Nibandhana's Parable and Narada's Vision of Vishnu

Yudhishthira asks why people feel no revulsion from the sorrow-filled wheel of worldly existence. Bhishma tells how the sage Nibandhana answered his mother Bhogavati with the parable of a man hanging in a well, drinking honey, and explains each part of it: the forest is worldly existence, the serpent Time, the tree Death. He then recounts how Narada met the maiden Savitri, saw Vishnu after a hundred years of praise, and was sent to the worship of Krishna.

Speaker: Narada (his heading at v.49 is still in force). The second line (बिन्दवस्तु महादेवि…) is still his question about the drops, addressed to Savitri as महादेवि; the critical edition prints "kanyovāca" before it, but the page's heading कन्योवाच comes only at v.51.
