Shanti Parva · Adhyaya 206

The Order of Creation and the Descent of Krishna

At Yudhishthira's request to hear of Keshava in truth, Bhishma sets out the creation as the sages tell it: Vishnu rests on the waters, Brahma springs from his navel lotus, and Madhu is slain. Brahma's sons, Daksha's daughters, the gods, danavas and the four classes follow, with the ages of generation and the peoples of the south and north. Bhishma then declares Krishna to be the unthinkable Supreme Self in human form, to be reached by devotion and meditation, as Narada taught.
